30 crew members including 22 Indians safe, three missiles fired at Panama flag ship

Iran-backed Houthi militants fired three anti-ship missiles at merchant ships Maisha and MV Andromeda Star near the Red Sea, causing minor damage to the ship.

The Indian Navy deployed INS Kochi to respond to the maritime security incident involving the attack on Panama-flagged crude oil tanker MV Andromeda Star on 26 April and conducted a helicopter reconnaissance to assess the situation.

The Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team was also deployed for risk assessment. According to the Navy, 30 crew members, including 22 Indians, were safe and the ship departed for its scheduled destination.

The immediate action of the Indian Navy reflects its commitment towards the security of ships operating in the area.

The latest incident comes amid growing concern over attacks on various merchant ships by Houthi militants in the night sea. Over the past few weeks, the Indian Navy has protected several merchant ships from attacks in the western Indian Ocean.
