India women's team entered the quarter-finals of the Uber Cup with a 4-1 win over Singapore in the Group A doubles match here on Sunday, riding on a stellar performance by Ishrani Barua and Anmol Kharb. Asian champion India defeated Canada 4-1 in the first match. India performed brilliantly in the second match also. Despite the defeat of Ashmita Chaliha in the first match, India made a strong comeback and won all the remaining matches. It was a good week for the inexperienced Indian team in the absence of big players. 53rd-ranked Chaliha bounced back on Saturday with a win over Canada's Michelle Lee but lost to world number 18 Yeo Jia Min.
National champion Priya Kongengbam and 67th-ranked Shruti Mishra lost 21-15, 21-16 to Xiao En Heng and Jin Yu Jia in women's doubles.
Ishrani doubled India's lead by defeating Insira Khan 21-12, 21-16 in the second singles match. The pair of Simran Sindhi and Ritika Thakar defeated the pair of Yi Ting, Elsa Lai and John Mitchell 21-8, 21-11 and made the score 3-1. After this, Anmol Kharab defeated Lee Jin Megan in straight sets 21-15, 21-13 in the third singles match to ensure India's 4-1 victory. India is now second in Group A after China.
