Rs 3.5 crore cash seized from vehicle during blockade in Bhandup

Mumbai: Due to the Lok Sabha elections, the code of conduct has been implemented across the country. Police and Election Commission officials have become alert, it is being told that during the blockade in Bhandup last night, cash worth about Rs 3.5 crore was recovered in a vehicle.

Further action has been taken after the driver and another person did not give satisfactory answer regarding the cash amount. The Income Tax Department is also investigating this matter.

Sonapur signal in Bhandup was surrounded by the flying squad of the Election Commission last night. Suspicious vehicles were being investigated here. At that time, a van-like vehicle used to deposit cash in the ATM was investigated.

It is being told that around three to three and a half crore rupees were found in this vehicle. The driver of the van, the security guard, another person were questioned about the cash. But he could not give a satisfactory explanation. Therefore, the Election Commission handed over this van to Bhandup Police.

The van was brought to the police station and cash payment was made. On the other hand, the Income Tax Department was also informed about the incident.

Where this money was brought from and where it was being taken is being investigated. Cash and other things are given to attract voters in elections. Necessary action is being taken to stop such incidents.

Cash worth Rs 44 crore has been seized in the last 44 days in Maharashtra. Apart from this, valuables worth Rs 69.38 crore, 3.5 lakh liters of liquor and other goods worth Rs 431.34 crore have been seized.
