2 soldiers martyred in midnight attack on CRPF battalion by Kuki extremists in Manipur

On one hand, Lok Sabha elections are going on and on the other hand, a shocking news has come from the north-eastern state of Manipur. Conflict continues between the Kuki and Meitei communities. According to reports, Kuki extremists attacked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday midnight. In which two CRPF soldiers have been martyred.

Giving more information about this, Manipur Police said that two CRPF soldiers were martyred in the attack by Kuki extremists at around 2:30 pm on Friday. Both the soldiers belonged to the 128th battalion of CRPF deployed in Naransena area of ​​Bishnupur district of Manipur.

Earlier, terrorists fired at each other in three districts of Kangpokpi, Ukhrul and Trijunction district of Imphal East. Two people of Kuku community died in this firing. Later, after 2 days of cross firing between Hairok and Tenganupal in Thoubal district, violence broke out again in Moirangpurel in Imphal East district. In which armed rioters from both Kangpokpi and Imphal East were included.

Violence broke out last year
More than 180 people have been killed in Manipur since communal violence broke out on May 3 last year following a tribal solidarity march held in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The Meitei community constitutes about 53 percent of Manipur's population and lives mostly in the Imphal Valley. While tribals including Naga and Kuki constitute 40 percent and live mainly in the hill districts.
