This student of Indian origin is studying in America's prestigious Princeton University. The university has also taken disciplinary action against the student.
A university spokesperson said the student, named Achintya Sivalingan, was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and disciplinary action has been taken against her. The student has been expelled from the university.
About 100 graduate students began a sit-in in the McCosh courtyard, marking the beginning of pro-Palestinian sit-ins across the country. Protesting students are demanding that colleges sever their financial ties to Israel and divest from companies fueling the war in Gaza.
Let us tell you that under the leadership of students, pro-Palestine protesters have set up a camp in the McCosh courtyard. Two Princeton students have been arrested after warnings from university officials.
Two of these students, Achintya Sivalingam GS and Hassan Syed GS, were arrested within six minutes of pitching the first tent. University spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said both graduate students are subject to disciplinary action and have been banned from campus.
Morrill said no force was used by security officers during the arrest.
