Punjabi husband and wife won in 2019 elections

The husband and wife of the Badal family came into limelight due to their victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal won the 2019 elections.

In 2019, two out of 13 seats in Punjab were to be won. One of those seats belonged to Harsimrat Kaur Badal. He contested the election from Bathinda seat and became MP by winning the election against the Congress candidate by a margin of just 1.8 percent.

Unique record of winning elections

In 2014, he became MP from the same seat by defeating his rival by a margin of 1.65 per cent. At the same time, in the 2019 elections, Sukhbir Singh Badal had won the election by a huge margin of 17 percent.

After him, Captain Amarinder Singh's wife Preneet won from Patiala seat by a margin of 13.8 percent. Thus, in 2019, the husband and wife have a unique record of winning the elections by the largest and smallest margins.
