Jaipur, 23 April (HS). The state's first barbed pharyngoplasty sleep surgery was performed at CK Birla Hospital. 45 year old Mahesh (name changed) used to snore loudly while sleeping and felt tired even after waking up in the morning. He was so sleep deprived that he started dozing off even while riding his bike. In such a situation, when he consulted a doctor at CK Birla Hospital in the city, it was revealed that he had a serious sleep disorder, obstructive sleep apnea. The hospital's ENT specialist Dr. Vijay Sharma, Dr. Rahul Nahar and Dr. Shivam Sharma cured the patient of this serious disease by performing Rajasthan's first barbed pharyngoplasty sleep surgery.
Dr. Shivam Sharma told that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a breathing disorder related to sleep. A person suffering from this disease stops breathing during sleep and he does not even realize it. This problem of stopping breathing during sleep can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. This disease mostly occurs in obese people and due to lack of correct information, it often cannot be treated. When the condition becomes serious, this disease can cause diseases like hypertension, heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat, diabetes, cancer, memory loss, sexual dysfunction, kidney failure and cardiomyopathy, which can prove fatal for the patient. There was a defect in the septum present in the patient's nose. There were tonsils in the throat and the palate was very weak. When he lay down, his palate would fall backwards due to which his breathing would stop during sleep and he would face a lot of problems.
Dr. Rahul Nahar informed that we did sleep endoscopy of the patient before taking the decision of operation. With the help of the anesthesia team, the patient was brought into normal sleep with medicines. During this time, as soon as the patient's breathing became obstructed and the oxygen level started falling along with snoring, at the same time flexible endoscopy through the nose was done to find out where the airway was obstructed and a decision was taken at which level to operate. taken .
