FIR against railway officer taking bribe to give pass to disabled passengers

Mumbai: In Pune, a crime has been registered against a railway official who demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a disabled passenger in exchange for making a railway ID card/pass. CBI has investigated this matter.

According to the police, a disabled tourist from Pune had lodged a complaint on April 17. This tourist avails the concessional facilities given to the disabled since the year 2018. For this, ID card/pass will have to be shown. Since the passenger's pass was pulled during the train journey, he went to the concerned officer Subroto at Pune railway station on April 9 to apply for a new pass.

When the disabled person told about his problem, it is not possible for Subroto to make a new pass. He replied. However, later the greedy officer offered the passenger a pass in exchange for Rs 2,000. The tourist did not want to pay bribe so he complained about the officer to CBI.

The complaint of the disabled passenger was verified on 18 April. In which it was revealed that the complainant had gone to an officer named Subroto with his problem. When the officer demanded Rs 2,000 and asked to make a new pass, the passenger requested to reduce the bribe amount. At that time the officer had said that in such cases he takes Rs 5000 and a minimum of Rs 2500. However, now he has already asked for a lesser amount. When the complainant requested again, the officer asked to pay Rs 1800.

Finally, CBI has registered a case against the railway officer under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act on charges of demanding bribe and is investigating.
