A PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court regarding the interim bail of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which has been rejected by the court. This petition was filed by a law student. Chief Minister Kejriwal's lawyer Rahul Mehra himself opposed this. During the hearing, lawyer Rahul Mehra presented his arguments, after which the judge rejected the petition while giving the verdict.
The petition, rejected by the court, had demanded that Arvind Kejriwal be granted bail till his tenure as Chief Minister or till the completion of the trial. Senior from CM Kejriwal Advocate Rahul Mehra argued in the court that this PIL has been filed as part of a conspiracy. The petitioner has no right to make such an appeal. If Chief Minister Kejriwal wishes, he can use his powers and appeal for interim bail when the time comes. Along with this, the lawyer clarified before the court that no one knows the petitioner in favor of CM Kejriwal. It appears that the petitioner has taken this step only to bring himself into limelight or to get publicity for himself.
After listening to Arvind Kejriwal's lawyer during the hearing, the bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora imposed a fine of Rs 75 thousand on the petitioner. The High Court bench also held that the petitioner did not have any power of attorney on behalf of the Chief Minister of Delhi through which he could give such a statement or such a personal bond on his behalf. The bench said that it is clear that the petitioner is not aware of the ongoing proceedings against Arvind Kejriwal. The present PIL is dismissed with payment of Rs 75 thousand to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Fund.
