Rain alert in Pakistan: Stormy rain in Pakistan, emergency declared

Rain in Pakistan: Officials said on Tuesday that 50 people have died in Pakistan due to the storm that hit the country, while Afghan officials have reported 50 deaths.

Torrential rains and floods in Pakistan have caused landslides, damaged houses and uprooted trees.

Dozens of houses collapsed in northwestern and eastern Punjab province due to the rain. A spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority said 21 people had died, adding that more rain was expected this week.

Rain also lashed the capital Islamabad, killing seven people in the southwestern province of Balochistan. Roads were flooded in the northwestern city of Peshawar and Balochistan's capital Quetta.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has asked emergency services to remain alert amid forecast of severe weather conditions.

Taliban officials said more than 600 homes were damaged or destroyed and about 200 livestock were killed, and flooding damaged agricultural land and more than 85 km (53 mi) of roads.
