New Delhi, 15 February (HS). The domestic stock market closed on a strong note today after trading amid continuous ups and downs. Today's trading started with gains but after the market opened, sellers put pressure on them. Due to this, both Sensex and Nifty indices fell into the red. However, later buyers also made their presence felt, due to which the movements of both these indices continued to fluctuate. After the entire day's trading, Sensex and Nifty closed with a gain of 0.32 percent.
Today, during the day's trading, there was continuous buying in shares of PSU Bank, Public Sector Enterprise, Realty, Energy and IT sectors. On the other hand, shares of pharmaceutical, media and FMCG sectors continued to trade under pressure. There was continuous buying in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.93 percent. Similarly, the Smallcap index ended today's trading with a gain of 1.24 percent.
Today, due to the rise in the market, the wealth of stock market investors increased by more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore. The market capitalization of BSE listed companies increased to Rs 387.31 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Whereas on the last trading day i.e. Wednesday, their market capitalization was Rs 384.75 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 2.56 lakh crore from today's trading.
Today, there was active trading in 3,938 shares in BSE in the day's trading. Of these, 2,354 shares closed with gains, while 1,504 shares closed with a decline, while 80 shares closed without any movement. There was active trading in 2,136 shares in NSE today. Of these, 1,389 shares closed in the green after earning profit and 747 shares closed in the red after incurring a loss. Similarly, out of 30 shares included in Sensex, 16 shares closed with gains and 14 shares closed with decline. Whereas out of the stocks included in Nifty, 24 stocks closed in the green mark and 26 stocks closed in the red mark.
BSE Sensex opened today at 72,061.47 with a gain of 238.64 points. There was a sharp decline in this index due to selling pressure as soon as trading started. Due to continuous selling, within a short time this index fell by more than 400 points from the opening level and reached 71,644.44 points with a weakness of 178.39 points, but after this the buyers also made their presence felt. With the support of buying, in the second session of the day, the Sensex gained 342.14 points to reach 72,164.97 points, but after this, due to selling in the market once again, there was a slight decline in the index. After buying and selling throughout the day, the Sensex closed at 72,050.38 points with a gain of 227.55 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty started trading today at 21,906.55 points with a gain of 66.50 points. However, due to the dominance of bears in the early trading itself, this index fell by more than 110 points from the opening level and fell to 21,794.80 with a weakness of 45.25 points. However, after 10 am, buyers also showed their strength, due to which the speed of this index started increasing. With the support of continuous buying, this index strengthened by 113.80 points and reached the level of 21,953.85 points around 2 pm. After the day's trading, Nifty closed at 21,910.75 points with a gain of 70.70 points.
After buying and selling throughout the day, among the big stocks of the stock market, Mahindra & Mahindra is in the list of today's top 5 gainers with the strength of 6.52 percent, BPCL 4.67 percent, NTPC 3.43 percent, ONGC 3.15 percent and Power Grid Corporation 2.92 percent. joined in. On the other hand, Axis Bank fell by 2.25 per cent, Apollo Hospitals by 1.87 per cent, ITC by 1.86 per cent, Hindustan Unilever by 1.55 per cent and Nestle by 1.34 per cent joined the list of today's top 5 losers.
