New Delhi, 19 February (HS). Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi government to decide within 10 days on the parole application of Ravi Kapoor, convicted in the IT executive Jigisha Ghosh murder case. Justice Vikas Mahajan gave this order.
Ravi Kapoor has sought three months parole to attend his niece's wedding and meet his family members. Ravi Kapoor has said in his application that he had applied for parole to the administration on January 29 but no decision has been taken on it.
During the hearing, the Delhi government said that according to the Delhi Prison Rules, there is a provision to take a decision on any parole application within four weeks and four weeks have not yet been completed since Ravi Kapoor's application was submitted. Delhi government said that it will take a decision on Ravi Kapoor's parole application in ten days. After that the court directed the Delhi government to take a decision on Ravi Kapoor's parole application within 10 days from today.
It is noteworthy that Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla were convicted in the IT executive Jigisha Ghosh murder case in 2009. Ravi Kapoor is serving life imprisonment in the Jigisha Ghosh murder case. Ravi Kapoor was also convicted by the trial court in the murder case of TV journalist Saumya Vishwanathan. Ravi Kapoor and another co-accused Amit Shukla were awarded death sentence by the trial court. On January 4, 2018, the High Court had ordered to convert the death sentence of both of them to life imprisonment.
Jigisha worked as an operational manager in Hewitt Associate Private Limited Company. He was murdered on March 18, 2009. The office cab dropped Jigisha in front of her house in Vasant Vihar at four in the morning. Meanwhile, the three accused had kidnapped and murdered him and threw his body near Surajkund in Faridabad. Jigisha's body was recovered on March 21.
Ravi Kapoor is also among the four convicts whose sentence of murder of Soumya Vishwanathan was suspended by the High Court on February 12. On November 25, 2023, the Saket court had sentenced four convicts to life imprisonment and three years imprisonment to one convict in the murder case of Soumya Vishwanathan. The court had sentenced Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Balbir Malik and Ajay Kumar to life imprisonment. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on all four for murder and Rs 1 lakh for MCOCA. The court had sentenced Ajay Sethi to three years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
