Vande Bharat: Since hitting the tracks for the first time on February 15, 2019, the flagship, Star Train Vande Bharat has set a record of carrying more than two crore passengers till March 31, 2024.

The first set of two trains between Delhi and Varanasi was flagged off on February 15, 2019, officials said on Monday.

Furthermore, Indian Railways is celebrating 171 years of being in service as the first train in India ran between Mumbai and Thane on April 16, 1853.

Officials said that the journey of Railways in the last few years has been spectacular as it has successfully expanded its network to cover almost every corner of the country and today, Vande Bharat has become a new identity of the modernization network.

According to data shared by the Railways, Vande Bharat started with two trains on one route in 2019 and today has 102 Vande Bharat trains running on 100 routes covering 284 districts in 24 states and union territories.

“The distance covered by Vande Bharat trains in the financial year 2023-24 is equivalent to 310 revolutions around our planet Earth. Vande Bharat, which offers many world-class passenger amenities, is a new-age train based on distributed-power technology that helps in a smooth journey as well as quick acceleration and deceleration,” a railway official said. The national carrier has a Make in India initiative. This was accomplished with the indigenous semi-high speed train which has gained significant popularity among the passengers, especially the youth.

“Passenger data speaks volumes about its popularity. Since its launch on February 15, 2019, more than two crore passengers have traveled in it as it offers facilities parallel to airplanes,” the official said.

“I think passengers enjoy its speed, comfortable seats, sound-proof coaches, WiFi services, GPS-based passenger information system, pantry facilities in each coach and transparent large-sized window panes that keep them in the rural areas among others. Allowing one to enjoy the natural beauty of the areas. ,

Railways is in the process of launching more Vande Bharat trains as well as its sleeper version.

“Very soon, Vande Bharat Sleeper Edition will hit the tracks giving long distance passengers a new travel experience. Recently, the Railway Minister visited the Bengaluru-based rail unit and inaugurated the body structure of the sleeper version,” said an official.
