Lok Sabha Elections 2024: As the voting date for the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is approaching, political parties are preparing in full swing and trying their best to woo the voters. This time BJP has given ticket to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, Yusuf Pathan will contest the elections from Trinamool. This is not the first time that a cricketer has entered politics, even before this some cricketers had tried their luck in elections but their magic could not work and they flopped on the political pitch.
It is not necessary that every person who comes into politics is successful
It is not true that every person who comes into politics becomes successful, be it a Bollywood celebrity or a cricketer. It is not necessary that people want to see the person they love as a politician. The land of Haryana has seen the loss of such stars, who were loved and respected across the country. Which also includes cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, father of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, and former cricketer Chetan Sharma.
Pataudi contests Lok Sabha elections
After the formation of Haryana state, Nawab Pataudi was fielded in the Lok Sabha elections held from Gurugram in 1971. Actress Sharmila Tagore also came to promote him and a crowd of thousands gathered. Famous cricketers like Kapil Dev had also campaigned for Tiger Pataudi, but Mansoor Ali Khan's magic did not work in this election and he could not win. Pataudi lost to Congress candidate and veteran Mewat leader Tayyab Hussain. It is noteworthy that Pataudi was a great cricketer of his time.
BSP gave ticket to Chetan Sharma
Apart from this, former cricketer Chetan Sharma, who took the first hat-trick in the Cricket World Cup, also tried his luck in politics from Faridabad in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. He contested the elections on Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) ticket but could not win. He finished third behind rivals Avtar Singh Bhadana of Congress and Ramchand Banda of BJP with over one lakh votes. BSP was looking for a strong face in that election. Coming from the Brahmin community, being a BSP cadre voter and a cricketer, BSP fielded Chetan Sharma on the ticket under the social engineering formula.
