Bikaner, 13 April (HS). Swami Keshavanand Rajasthan Agricultural University will now produce certified seeds instead of truthful seeds. These seeds will be certified seeds from the state government. Earlier, certified seeds were prepared only in Agricultural Science Center Abusar Jhunjhunu and Agricultural Research Center Sriganganagar under SKRA University. This decision was taken in a meeting held at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat of Agricultural University on Saturday regarding the availability of seeds in Kharif 2024. The chief guest at the meeting was Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tomar, Director of Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department. The program was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr. Arun Kumar.
In the meeting, chief guest Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tomar said that agricultural scientists should provide very good quality seeds to the farmers. This will also increase the credibility of the Agricultural University. He also said that there should be a single window system in the Agricultural University to provide seeds to the farmers so that the farmers do not have to wander here and there. Dr. Tomar said that it should be decided in the board meeting itself that if the seeds are saved then they can be sold following no profit, no loss policy.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Arun Kumar said that the Agricultural University is producing good quality seeds with the help of farmers. The proposal to give subsidy on seeds to the Agricultural University will be sent to the state government. So that farmers can get good quality seeds at low prices from Agricultural University. He also said that a proposal will be sent to the state government regarding formation of a committee for making seed chain and seed broadcasting.
In view of the demand for sesame seeds across the country, it was also decided to produce seeds in Jaisalmer and Pokaran Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Before starting the program, Additional Director Seed, Dr. PC Gupta gave detailed information through PPT regarding seed availability in Kharif crop 2023 and seed availability planning for Kharif 2024. Research Director Dr PS Shekhawat said that agricultural universities can do the best in the whole of Rajasthan regarding groundnut and guar seed production.
Extension Director Dr. Subhash Chandra said that good communication with the state government and providing information to the farmers about increasing the crop from agricultural university seeds will definitely benefit. At the end of the program, Deputy Director Seed Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tiwari expressed his gratitude. It is known that apart from the 7 agricultural science centers under the Agricultural University, Bikaner, Lunkaransar, Jaisalmer, Pokaran, Chandgothi in Churu, Abusar in Jhunjhunu, Padampur in Sriganganagar, apart from Mechanical Agriculture Farm Rozdi, University Seed Farm Bichwal, University Central Farm Khara, Agriculture A total of 15 seed production centers including Research Center Bikaner, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh, Agricultural College Bikaner, Landscaping Cell have a total land of about 1300 hectares. At these 15 centres, 1500 quintals of seeds of various Kharif crops were produced in the year 2023.
