The Defense Ministry has issued a tender to state-owned Aerospace Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of indigenously developed 97 fighter jet (LCA Mk-1A) Tejas for the Indian Air Force. Defense officials gave this information. The cost of these war planes has been estimated at around Rs 67,000 crore.
The project was approved in November
The Tejas aircraft is considered very powerful for air combat and offensive air support missions while reconnaissance and anti-ship operations are its secondary roles. In November, the Defense Acquisition Council approved the project to procure 97 Tejas jets for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The DCA also approved the Indian Air Force's proposal to upgrade its Su-30 fighter fleet through Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
