Big decision of CM Yogi, compensation in natural disaster doubled

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a very historic and humanitarian decision in the interest of the citizens of the state and to provide support to the affected families facing natural disasters. The state government has announced to directly double the amount of financial assistance (compensation) given to the dependents of people who lost their lives due to natural calamities like flood, heavy rain, lightning, storm, hailstorm and unexpected natural calamities in Uttar Pradesh. After this big decision of CM Yogi, now a huge assistance amount of Rs 8 lakh will be provided to the family of every person who lost his life in the disaster, instead of Rs 4 lakh. With this decision of the Chief Minister, the way has been completely cleared for timely and adequate financial relief to the disaster victims in the entire state. This step of the government is being appreciated all around and it is being considered as the beginning of a new era of disaster management and public welfare policies in the state.

According to the official guidelines issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, this increase in the ex-gratia amount given to the families of victims of loss of life during natural disasters in the state has been implemented with immediate effect. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, during a high-level review meeting held recently, gave clear instructions to the officials that administrative red tape and delays in cases of natural disasters will not be tolerated at all. Earlier, in case of untimely death of a citizen, an amount of Rs 4 lakh was given to the family from the Disaster Relief Fund, now this amount has been increased to Rs 8 lakh. The Chief Minister has clearly said that when a earning member of a family or a loved one becomes a victim of an untimely natural disaster, a mountain of sorrow falls on that family. At such a time, it is the responsibility of the government to stand with the victim’s family with full strength and sensitivity so that they do not have to face financial crisis.

Under this decision, compensation has not only been increased for loss of life and property, but the rules for providing assistance for partially injured people, house collapse and loss of livestock have also been made more practical and quick. Many rural and urban families are affected every year due to lightning, hailstorm and swollen rivers during monsoon and summer in Uttar Pradesh. According to the new rules:

  • Direct transfer of compensation amount: Now the entire amount of disaster relief will be sent directly to the victim’s bank account through direct benefit transfer (DBT) within 24 to 48 hours.

  • Fixing of accountability of officers: District Magistrates (DM) and Tehsil level officers have been instructed to reach the spot and complete the survey as soon as information about the incident is received.

  • Relief on livestock and crop damage: The relief amount given in case of death of milch animals due to lightning or flood has also been increased so that the livelihood of farmers and cattle herders is not affected.

This decision of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a big security shield for the remote rural areas, Terai areas and farmer families of the state. Earlier, it used to take months to get relief money during natural disasters, but Yogi government has made the entire process transparent, digital and time bound. Strict instructions have been issued to the State Relief Commissioner’s office to remain on alert mode 24 hours and ensure availability of relief funds at the district level. Administrative experts and political analysts believe that this step of CM Yogi not only strengthens the disaster management network of the state, but also gives the message that the government is fully committed to sharing the pain and suffering of the last resort citizen of the state. After this historic decision, farmers, laborers and general public across the state have heaved a sigh of relief.
