A big and much awaited good news has emerged for the eligible candidates looking to make a career in Indian Railways. Recruitment in Isolated Categories is quite different and specific from the General Non-Technical (NTPC) or Group D recruitment of Railways. These posts include such cadres which require special educational qualification, linguistic proficiency, technical skills or professional experience. If you also want to join the prestigious service of Railways under the Central Government, then this is a great opportunity for you. The recruitment process will be completely transparent and based on Computer Based Test (CBT) system.

The age limit for isolated cadre posts is determined based on the pay level and technical responsibilities of the post:

  • General Age Limit: For most of the posts (like Stenographer), the minimum age has been fixed at 18 years and maximum age has been fixed at 30 to 33 years.

  • High level posts: For experienced posts like Chief Law Assistant and PGT teachers, the maximum age limit is 40 to 45 years.

  • Exemption to reserved categories: Under the reservation rules of the Central Government, Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates will get relaxation of 5 years in the maximum age limit. Other Backward Class (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer) candidates will be given relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years and Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) will be given relaxation of up to 10 years.

The selection process for Ministerial and Isolated Categories has been made multi-stage and transparent by Railway Recruitment Board:
