The Central Government’s ‘Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’ (AB-PMJAY) has proved to be a boon in providing protection to the poor, deprived and economically weak families of the country from expensive treatment of serious diseases. Under this scheme, cashless and free health insurance cover of up to ₹ 5 lakh is provided to every eligible family every year in all the empaneled government and private hospitals of the country. The National Health Authority (NHA) has linked this entire process to the modern digital system, so that now no citizen has to visit government offices or public service centers to see his or her family’s name in the beneficiary list. You can find your name in the new Ayushman card list, check eligibility and also download the card directly in just 2 minutes sitting at home through your smartphone.

The Golden Card available under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme provides the holder with the facility of completely cashless treatment when admitted to secondary and tertiary level hospitals. The plan covers over 1,900 medical procedures, including costly medical procedures like major surgeries, cancer treatments, heart disease, neurology, kidney transplant and dialysis. The cost of medicines and tests up to 3 days before admission and up to 15 days after discharge is also covered under the scheme. There is no restriction on the number or age of family members, meaning the entire family collectively gets an annual protection cover of ₹5 lakh. Along with this, a separate top-up health cover of ₹ 5 lakh is also being provided under ‘Ayushman Vaya Vandana’ for all senior citizens aged 70 years and above.

The beneficiary list of Ayushman Yojana is determined mainly on the basis of Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC 2011) data and National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration card database of the respective states. Families living in kutcha houses in rural areas, landless laborers, families belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes, and women-headed families automatically come under its purview. Street vendors, domestic workers, sanitation workers, auto drivers, construction workers and low income group families in urban areas are eligible. Apart from this, names of families who have six or more members registered in valid Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Primary Household (PHH) ration cards issued by the state government have also been rapidly added to the scheme. Employees working in government service, income tax payers or families owning large agricultural equipment are kept out of the scope of this scheme.
