A big and disappointing news has come to light for the qualified doctors and specialists who are preparing to become faculty in government medical colleges in Bihar and for higher positions in the medical field. Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has completely canceled the ongoing regular recruitment process for a total of 1,711 vacant posts of Assistant Professor (Specialty) in various government medical colleges and hospitals under the Health Department of the State Government. The Commission has issued a formal notification in this regard and announced the cancellation of all 25 advertisements from advertisement number 04/2025 to 28/2025 with immediate effect.
Under this recruitment, applications were invited during April-May and hundreds of medical experts were waiting for the interview and results. There is deep dissatisfaction among the candidates due to the sudden cancellation of the entire process, because they were waiting for this regular resumption for a long time.
According to the official notice issued by Bihar Public Service Commission, the reason for cancellation of this recruitment is not any internal decision of the Commission but an administrative decision of the Health Department of Bihar Government.
-
Health Department withdrew the requisition: The Health Department has formally withdrawn its original requisition sent earlier for regular appointment to 1,711 assistant professor posts in medical colleges. Since the recruitment agency did not have the official demand of the department, hence as per the rules BPSC had to cancel the related advertisement.
-
Changes in roster and position structure: According to administrative sources, due to restructuring of posts in new and old medical colleges of the state, revised requirement of specialist faculty and updation of reservation roster, it has been decided to remove the shortcomings in the old requisition.
-
New rules of eligibility and service conditions: It is planned to start the process afresh by withdrawing the old advertisements to incorporate the new standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the policy reforms being made in the State Medical Education Service Cadre Manual.
This recruitment drive was started to overcome the acute shortage of doctors and professors in super-specialty and broad-specialty departments in the government medical colleges of Bihar. It mainly consisted of the following departments:
-
General Medicine and General Surgery
-
Gynecology & Obstetrics
-
Pediatrics
-
Anesthesiology
-
Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry
-
Radiology and Radiotherapy
-
Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology
-
Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and ENT Department

-
