Gyanvapi case: Demand to conduct ASI survey of closed basement, hearing to be held today

A hearing will be held today in the District Judge's court regarding permission to repair the roof of the south facing basement in Varanasi Gyanvapi Mosque. The hearing of this case was to be held on 11th April, but due to Eid holiday, it will now be heard on 12th April.

Importantly, on the previous date, a petition was given on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust that the priests of the basement have expressed the fear of collapse due to the dilapidated and weak roof. Due to which loss of life is also possible. In such a situation, in view of safety, permission should be given to repair the roof and orders should also be given to stop movement on the roof.

A scientific survey of the closed basement and other places was also requested by Rakhi Singh. This application will also be heard. A hearing in this regard was held in Varanasi District Court. Both the parties presented their arguments in the court of in-charge District Judge Anil Kumar Pancham. While the Hindu side considered the demand for ASI survey of the remaining two basements as necessary in view of better evidence and evidence base, the Muslim side objected to it. However, the district court, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, fixed the next date in the case.
