Amid the ongoing fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market and global economic movements, Indian Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs)—such as Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL)—have released the latest prices of petrol and diesel today on October 29. There has been no major change in the retail prices of auto fuels at the national level and the rates have remained stable in most metros and state capitals. Globally, Brent crude prices are trading around $114 per barrel. The ‘Dynamic Fuel Pricing’ system is in force in India since June 2017. Under this, government oil companies review the average price of crude oil in the international market for the last 15 days and the exchange rate of the Indian rupee against the US dollar every day at 6 am. After this, the final retail price is decided by adding production cost, central government excise duty, state VAT, transportation charges and dealer commission. Since VAT rates are different in different states, the prices of petrol and diesel appear different in every state and city.
