These days, preparations for a big global event are in full swing in India, which has become the center of international diplomacy and geopolitical activities. The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum is going to be organized in the national capital New Delhi, in which top parliamentary representatives of many major emerging countries of the world are participating. A big and shocking news has come out from the diplomatic circles regarding this conference. Speaker of Iran’s Parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly) Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will not be able to personally attend this important multilateral conference. The sudden cancellation of his visit has sparked discussions in diplomatic circles and everyone is curious to know the real reason behind it.
After news of Iran’s top leader and Parliament Speaker suddenly canceling his visit to India gained momentum, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi issued an official statement clarifying the situation. According to the official information given by the Embassy, due to some unavoidable and sudden circumstances, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will not be able to come on his scheduled visit to India. The Iranian Embassy clarified in its statement that due to these ‘unforeseen circumstances’ they had to postpone their visit at the last moment. However, the Embassy wholeheartedly appreciates the hospitality extended by the Government of India and the excellent arrangements made to host this major global forum.
Even though the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament is not able to attend this conference due to personal reasons, it does not mean that Iran’s voice will not be heard on the BRICS platform. The Iranian Embassy has made it clear that there will be no impact on the country’s representation in the high-level meeting. In place of Speaker Ghalibaf, a special Parliamentary Delegation from Iran is reaching New Delhi to participate in this two-day prestigious forum. This delegation will strongly advocate for Iran in discussions on mutual cooperation, strengthening legislative ties and modern global issues such as digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI) among BRICS member countries.
At present, considering the geopolitical situation and regional equations of West Asia, the entire world is keeping a close eye on Iran’s diplomatic activities. In such a sensitive period, the presence of the Iranian delegation at a powerful forum like BRICS becomes even more important. The main objective of this 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, being organized under the leadership of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, is to strengthen democratic institutions among the member countries, find ways for shared development and improve global governance. Despite the absence of the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, it is hoped that the conference will be successfully concluded with mutual consent and a strong Joint Declaration, which will further amplify the voice of the Global South.
