This festive season has brought a wave of happiness for millions of government employees and working class across the country as well as in Bihar and Jharkhand. Especially at this time, happiness is clearly visible on the faces of the employees associated with the Postal Department. Taking a big and much awaited decision, the Central Government has approved 60 days Productivity Linked Bonus for more than 60 thousand postal workers and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) of Bihar and Jharkhand. In this period of inflation and this financial gift received just before the beginning of the festive season, there is an atmosphere of tremendous enthusiasm among the employees. This step of the government will not only strengthen the financial condition of the employees, but the families of these hardworking employees who run the postal department’s network smoothly will celebrate Diwali with great pomp this time.
As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Finance and Department of Posts of the Central Government, this bonus will be provided to all eligible employees who fall within the prescribed service rules and work-productivity. Regular postal employees, MTS, postmen, sorting assistants and Gramin Dak Sevaks falling under Bihar and Jharkhand Postal Circle will get the direct benefit of this bonus. Usually this bonus is given by the government to the employees to encourage their efficiency and their contribution to the revenue of the department. According to Postal Department officials, this bonus is being calculated on the basis of the performance of the last financial year and the fixed wage formula, due to which a substantial amount will be transferred to the account of every eligible employee.
The announcement of bonus just before the great festivals like Diwali and Chhath has brought great relief to the employees in meeting their family and festive needs. This process is being completed at a very fast pace by the local General Manager offices of the Postal Department so that the bonus amount can be deposited in everyone’s bank accounts before the festival holidays. For the last few months, employee organizations were in constant touch with the government regarding payment of bonus and other pending demands. In such a situation, the employee organizations have also expressed gratitude towards the Central Government and the department for issuing this order in time.
In today’s digital and internet era, where everything has become online, our postal workers and Gramin Dak Sevaks are still doing the work of delivering financial services, Aadhaar card updates, savings schemes and letters to remote rural areas, villages and towns with full dedication. The role of these employees in delivering the benefits of banking services and government schemes to the last person is no less than that of a warrior. This bonus given by the government is actually a small recognition of their hard work and dedication day and night, which further increases the significance of their labor during the festive season.
When bonuses and additional financial assistance suddenly reach thousands of employees in any region, it has a direct and positive impact on the local markets. With the arrival of this bonus, a huge jump in retail sales is expected in the markets of all the big and small cities of Bihar and Jharkhand like Patna, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Jamshedpur. The crowd of customers has started increasing at the vendors of clothes, electronics, jewelery and sweets. Overall, this decision of the Central Government has not only proved to be a big relief for the families of 60 thousand postal workers, but it is also providing a new impetus to the regional economy.
