A very painful and shocking news is coming out from the North American country Canada. A massive fire has broken out following a powerful explosion at ‘CFB Wainwright’, the major military base of the Canadian Armed Forces in Alberta province. Many people have died in this horrific accident that took place late on Saturday night, while dozens of soldiers and employees have suffered serious burns. The explosion was so powerful that it was felt several kilometers away, causing panic in the nearby residential areas.
Immediately after the incident, the entire military base has been sealed and a high-level emergency has been declared. Dozens of teams of air ambulance and local fire engines are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing to control the fire and rescue the trapped personnel.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed grief over this entire incident through social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and the media, calling it a “very serious incident”. PM Mark Carney said the central government is in constant contact with the Alberta provincial administration, provincial Premier Danielle Smith and local emergency officials through the Direct Response Coordination Committee.
The Prime Minister said in his statement, “A serious incident has occurred at the military base in Wainwright, Alberta, resulting in a massive fire. Our government is providing all possible assistance. My condolences to the families of the victims and the injured military personnel.” Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty also confirmed in a press conference that the number of casualties in the accident is worrying and the injured are being immediately airlifted to Wainwright Health Center and nearby major specialized hospitals.
CFB Wainwright, located in the Alberta region of Canada, is considered to be a very important and busiest training center of the Canadian Army. The military base, established during the Korean War in the 1950s, is normally home to about 690 regular military personnel and more than 300 civilian employees.
According to initial reports, the blast is suspected to have occurred near an army ammunition depot or fuel storage area, although the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have not yet officially confirmed the exact technical cause of the blast. According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion was first heard inside the base, which was immediately followed by huge flames and a plume of black smoke rising into the sky. Due to strong winds, the fire quickly engulfed many parts of the base complex.
In view of the magnitude of the accident, Alberta’s provincial emergency team has put the surrounding civilian areas on alert. The local administration has issued an advisory to nearby residents to stay in safe places and keep windows and doors closed to avoid inhaling the toxic smoke.
Along with military hospitals, civilian health facilities have also been put on high alert. Special technical teams of the Army and teams of forensic experts are reaching the spot so that after the fire is completely controlled, an in-depth investigation can be started to find out the actual cause of the explosion, safety lapse or any other aspect.
