JNVST Admission Last Date Extended: Last date for admission in Navodaya Vidyalaya class 9th and 11th extended, now apply online till 22nd October

There is a relief news for the students who are dreaming of getting admission in the prestigious Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas which provide excellent and free residential education to the rural and meritorious students across the country. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has extended the last date of online application for admission to vacant seats under Lateral Entry Selection Test (JNVST) in class 9th and class 11th for the academic session. The application process was going to end as per the pre-determined schedule, but keeping in mind the representations received from students, parents and educational institutions from many states and the increasing pressure on the website during the festival season, the committee has taken a formal decision to extend the application deadline till October 22. This amendment has been implemented to fill the vacant seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas located in all the districts of the country including Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur and Gorakhpur. Eligible students who had not filled the form till now due to some technical reason or delay in collecting documents, will have this last opportunity to become a part of the best government residential education system of the country.

According to the official notification issued by the headquarters of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, the online registration window for Lateral Entry Test of Class 9 and Class 11 will now remain open till midnight of October 22. The examination controller cell of the committee has clarified that this date has been extended to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the students from rural background, because due to floods, heavy rains or connectivity issues in many remote areas, students were not able to upload their bonafide certificates and school attested documents on the online portal on time. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has made it clear that after October 22, the application date will not be extended again under any circumstances. In such a situation, parents and students have been advised to complete their registration and form submission on time to avoid last hour server load and technical glitches.

The committee has set stringent and transparent eligibility standards for admission to class 9th in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The most important condition is that the candidate should be studying as a regular student in class 8th in the current academic session in a government, government-aided or a recognized non-government school of the same district in which he/she wants to take admission in Navodaya Vidyalaya. It is mandatory for the candidate to be a bona fide local resident of that concerned district. As per the rules of the committee regarding age limit, the student should be born between the prescribed cut-off dates, with no separate relaxation in the upper age limit given to any reserved category. Additionally, students who have previously passed Class 8 or who are open schooling students and do not satisfy the recognition conditions will not be eligible to appear for this entrance examination.

The rules for students seeking admission in class 11th are slightly different and more specific than those for class 9th. Only those students can apply for Class 11 Lateral Entry Test who are regularly studying in Class 10 in a recognized school of that respective district in the current academic session. The allotment to Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational streams is decided on the basis of student’s performance in the entrance examination and merit of marks obtained in class 10th board examination. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has clarified that the number of vacant seats depends on the capacity of the hostel in the concerned school and the seats left after the internal students promoted from class 10th to class 11th. External students get the opportunity to enter Science (PCM/PCB), Commerce or Arts stream through lateral entry only in proportion to the vacant seats available at the district level.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test is conducted in OMR Sheet based offline mode, in which all the questions are objective i.e. Multiple Choice (MCQ) type. The total duration of Class 9th exam is two and a half hours (150 minutes), in which 100 questions are asked for a total of 100 marks. The question paper is divided into four sections, which include English (15 marks), Hindi (15 marks), Mathematics (35 marks) and General Science (35 marks). The difficulty level of the exam is based on Class 8 NCERT syllabus. There are five sections in the class 11th entrance examination, in which 20-20 questions are asked from Mental Ability, English, Science, Social Science and Mathematics. The biggest relief in the exam is that there is no negative marking in it, that is, marks are not deducted for any wrong answer, but it is mandatory to score minimum qualifying marks in each section to make a place in the selection merit.

Students and parents should keep digital soft copies of all required certificates ready before starting the online application process. Recent passport size color photograph of the candidate, signature of the student and signature of parent or guardian in JPG format are to be uploaded along with the application form. Along with this, the most important document is the ‘Headmaster Certificate’ (Certificate to be verified by Headmaster), in which the Principal of the present school certifies that the student is studying in class 8th or 10th, date of birth, category (General/OBC/SC/ST) and rural or urban area status. For students who have Aadhaar card available, their details are verified with Aadhaar, while for students without Aadhaar, it is mandatory to upload valid government residence certificate of parents on the portal. If wrong information is given or fake certificate is found, the admission is immediately canceled even after selection.

The entire process of application for admission in classes 9 and 11 has been kept paperless and free, for which no application fee has to be paid. To apply, first of all one has to go to the official website of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (navodaya.gov.in) or directly to the NVS Admission Portal. Select the respective ‘Click here to apply’ link given for Class 9th Lateral Entry or Class 11th Lateral Entry on the homepage. After this, the registration form will open on the screen, where the primary registration has to be completed by entering the state, district, block, student name, mobile number, email ID and date of birth. After this, login using the registration number and password received and fill personal details, educational qualification and school details. In the next step upload the certificate, photograph and signature attested by the Headmaster. Before final submission of the form, check all the entries through ‘Preview’ option and finally submit and take a printout of the application form.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is among those select government educational institutions in the country whose board examination results are better than Kendriya Vidyalayas and big private convent schools every year. Run under the Ministry of Education of the Central Government, these schools focus on holistic development through modern smart classrooms, advanced science and computer laboratories, rich libraries and playgrounds led by qualified teachers. In Navodaya Vidyalayas, free quality education along with free boarding & lodging, food, school uniform, textbooks and materials of daily use are provided by the government to the selected students. Apart from this, students are also given dedicated coaching support for specialized preparation for medical and engineering entrance examinations (JEE and NEET). The unique tradition of migration of students (Migration Scheme) between Hindi and non-Hindi speaking states in class 9 to promote national integration is also the biggest identity of these schools, due to which the personality of the children becomes multidimensional.
