Akash Anand will campaign vigorously from Ayodhya to Azamgarh for UP elections.

The political temperature has already started rising in the politics of Uttar Pradesh regarding the upcoming assembly elections. Amid the ongoing political tussle between the major opposition forces of the state and the ruling party, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has started the process of laying its electoral chessboard at a rapid pace. The biggest and sensational turn in this entire incident came when BSP supremo Mayawati’s trusted successor and national convenor Akash Anand, who is called ‘Mayawati’s soldier’, has officially announced to enter the election field with full force. According to reports coming from party sources and political circles, Akash Anand is going to start a massive and vigorous campaign in every district of the state, especially from Purvanchal to Western UP, in view of the upcoming elections. From the holy land of Ayodhya to Azamgarh, considered the stronghold of Samajwadi Party, and Dalit-dominated Agra-Meerut, Akash Anand himself will reach ground zero and sharpen the organizational structure of BSP and announce the names of the party candidates.

Tremendous enthusiasm is being seen among the provincial and Mandar level leaders of BSP regarding this new political campaign of Akash Anand. According to party insiders, Akash Anand’s main focus will be on those seats where the vote bank of Dalits, Muslims and backward classes plays a decisive role. From Ayodhya division to Azamgarh, the political center of Purvanchal, plans for huge cadre camps and youth rallies have been prepared. Akash Anand himself will visit these areas and while addressing public meetings, he will directly attack the policies of Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party. BSP officials believe that the presence of Akash Anand will create a new enthusiasm among the youth and new voters of the state, who were looking for a strong and new Bahujan alternative for some time.

Bahujan Samaj Party’s supreme leader Mayawati has made a major change in her strategy and has largely handed over the command of election preparations to Akash Anand. This campaign of Akash Anand will not be limited only to speeches, but he is also playing an important role in the process of selection and announcement of ticket contenders for 403 assembly seats of the state. He will announce BSP candidates through public meetings to be held in various parts of the state from Etmadpur, Kheragarh in Agra. His agenda is very clear—uniting the traditional cadre of the party, connecting with the youth through social media and highlighting to the public the track record of good governance and law and order of the BSP rule.

In the politics of Uttar Pradesh, Azamgarh is considered the impregnable fort of SP and Ayodhya is considered the center of Hindutva, while the Agra-Aligarh belt has been the traditional stronghold of BSP. In such a situation, Akash Anand making these areas the center point of his campaign shows that BSP will not make the path easy for any party this time. Akash Anand’s visit, especially to Azamgarh and surrounding Purvanchal districts, will directly challenge the claims of the Samajwadi Party’s M-D (Muslim-Dalit) alliance. On the other hand, his activism in Ayodhya and Awadh region will force the strategists of both BJP and Congress parties to rethink their election strategy.

Opposition parties have been continuously raising questions about the performance of BSP in the last few elections, but Akash Anand’s entry into the fray again with full aggression has awakened a new confidence among the party supporters. London-educated Akash Anand is doing politics with the coordination of modern-day technology, social media campaigns and grassroots dialogue. His aggressive stance proves that he is fully committed to giving a new direction to the Bahujan movement by following the path shown by Mayawati. Now it will be interesting to see what new storm these public meetings and election rallies from Ayodhya to Azamgarh create on the political horizon of Uttar Pradesh and how helpful they prove to be in bringing BSP back in the race for power.
