Follow these surefire rules for purity and positivity in your home during the 9 days of Navratri.

In Sanatan culture, the festival of Shardiya and Chaitra Navratri is not limited to just worship or fasting, rather it is the biggest spiritual opportunity to make one’s body, mind and family completely energetic, sacred and positive. When Goddess Adishakti, the mother of the world, visits the homes of her devotees for nine days, a different divine and positive energy starts circulating in the atmosphere. In such a situation, it becomes very important that we take special care of the environment, cleanliness and discipline of our house so that the residence of Maa Durga remains permanent in our house. Many times people think that their work is done by just cleaning the place of worship, but according to Vastu Shastra and religious beliefs, purity and positivity of the entire house is very important during the days of Navratri so that negative energies stay away and the doors of happiness and prosperity can open in the family.

The main door of any house is not just a way of entry and exit, but it is from here that positive or negative energies enter the house. During these nine days of Navratri, the first thing you should do after waking up in the morning is clean the main door thoroughly. It is considered very auspicious to sprinkle Ganga water or pure water at the main gate every morning. Apart from this, tie a fresh ‘Toran’ of mango or Ashoka leaves at the main entrance. In Sanatan tradition it is considered very sacred which is a symbol of welcoming Mother Lakshmi and Mother Durga. In the evening, light a lamp of pure ghee at the main door, so that there is never any shortage of food and money in the house and external negative forces cannot enter within the boundaries of the house.

During Navratri, special care should be taken about the cleanliness of the kitchen of the house because it is here that Prasad is prepared for the offering of Mother Annapurna and Mother Durga. It is mandatory to keep the kitchen completely Satvik during these nine days. Even if garlic, onion or non-vegetarian food is used in your house on normal days, then they should be completely prohibited during these nine days of Navratri. Clean every corner of the kitchen daily and always keep the stove or gas stove clean. Before cooking, take bath, wear clean clothes and first take out the first roti for the cow or as an offering to God. This cleanliness of the kitchen has a direct positive impact on the health and mental peace of your household members.

The home temple or place of worship is the place where most spiritual energy is concentrated. During Navratri, decorate the temple with flowers and if you have done Ghatasthapana (installation of Kalash) or lit Akhand Jyoti, then take special care of its sanctity. The place where the Akhand Jyoti is lit should never be left alone or deserted; some member of the family must be present there. Clean the utensils, lamps and bells used during puja daily. Remove stale flowers from the temple immediately and replace them with fresh flowers. If you follow these rules with complete devotion, then you get full results of the puja and with the grace of the Goddess, all the wishes of the house are fulfilled.

Navratri fast is not completed only by physical cleanliness of the house, but the atmosphere inside the house and the conduct of the members is also equally important. During these nine days, there should not be any kind of discord, distress, shouting or use of abusive words in the house. In the house where elders are respected, women are respected and daughters-in-law and daughters of the house are happy, in that house only Maa Lakshmi and Maa Durga have permanent residence. Keep sweetness in your speech, avoid anger and spend maximum time in chanting Mother’s mantras or in positive spiritual discussions. Doing this not only provides mental peace but also extends mother’s immense compassion to the entire family.

This holy time of nine days of Navratri is not just about worshiping for oneself, but also about helping the needy and spreading positivity in the society. Donate food, clothes or fruits to the poor during these days as per your capacity. During Kanya Puja, feed nine little girls and give them gifts. When you bring happiness in the lives of others, the financial and mental condition of your own home also becomes stronger. By adopting these small but very important Vastu and religious rules, you can turn your house into an energetic temple, due to which happiness, peace, splendor and unbroken prosperity will reside in your house throughout the year.
