Today’s fast-paced modern lifestyle, irregular eating habits, not eating on time and the habit of working sitting at one place for hours have made every person a victim of problems related to the digestive system. Problems like gas formation in the stomach, acidity, constipation, not digesting food properly and bloating have become common. To get rid of these problems, people resort to English medicines and powders, but these provide relief only for some time and do not solve the root cause. According to Ayurveda and Yoga science, all the diseases of our body start from the stomach and if our digestive system is healthy, then we can remain healthy for a long time. Some very simple and effective yoga asanas have been mentioned in the ancient yoga methods, which by including them in your daily routine can ignite the fire in the stomach and every morsel eaten can be easily digested.
When it comes to improving digestion, ‘Vajrasana’ is considered the king of all the asanas. This is such a unique feature of Yoga Shastra that Vajrasana is the only Yogasana which can be easily done even when the stomach is full i.e. immediately after eating food. The method of doing this is very simple; You have to bend both your knees and sit on your toes, keep your spine straight and rest your palms on your knees, close your eyes and take long breaths. Sitting in Vajrasana for at least 5 to 10 minutes after eating food reduces the blood circulation towards the lower part of our body i.e. the legs and the blood flow towards the digestive organs increases rapidly, due to which the digestive juices get released in a better way and the food starts getting digested in a jiffy.
Apart from Vajrasana, there are two other important Yogasanas which are considered panacea for deep cleaning of the stomach and removing the problem of gas – the first is ‘Pawanmuktasana’ and the second is ‘Bhujangasana’. It is considered best to do Pawanmuktasana in the morning on an empty stomach; In this, one has to lie down on the back, bend the knees towards the chest and hold them with the hands and put the head on the knees. This asana is the best natural way to expel trapped gas from the stomach and massage the intestines. On the other hand, ‘Bhujangasana’ (Cobra Pose), done while lying on the stomach, makes the spine flexible and by applying pressure on the upper part of the stomach, the digestive organs get stimulated, which increases appetite and the old complaint of constipation gets eliminated forever.
In this series of keeping the digestive system completely healthy, the practice of ‘Ustrasana’ (Camel Pose) also gives very miraculous results. This asana of standing on the knees and bending backwards and holding the ankles creates a stretch in the abdominal organs, which boosts metabolism and the food eaten is easily converted into energy. If these four Yogasanas—Vajrasana, Pawanmuktasana, Bhujangasana and Ustrasana—are made a part of your daily routine, then you can get rid of problems like gas, acidity, heaviness and sour belching forever. Yoga is not just a physical exercise, but it is an art of living which establishes balance between our eating habits and digestive system. From today itself, make a habit of sitting in Vajrasana after your meals and experience a healthy, light and energetic body.
