In Sanatan Dharma, every day of the holy festival of Sharadiya Navratri, the great festival of worship of Shakti, is dedicated to some goddess or the other. The fourth day of Navratri is considered very special for the worship of ‘Maa Kushmanda’, the fourth form of Mother Durga, who created the universe and manifested the universe with her gentle smile. According to religious beliefs, when there was darkness all around and there was no existence of creation, then Mother Kushmanda had created this entire universe with her light laugh, that is why she is also called the original form of the universe. By worshiping them, all kinds of darkness, suffering, disease and grief in the life of the devotees are eliminated forever. On this fourth day of Navratri, from the morning itself, echoes of praises of Maa Kushmanda are heard in temples and homes across the country and devotees attend the court of Mata with full devotion.

The form of Goddess Kushmanda is very bright and grand. According to the Puranas, the radiance and glow of Mother Kushmanda’s body is as bright as the Sun, which illuminates even the directions. Mother has a total of eight arms, due to which she is also called ‘Ashtabhuja Devi’. His seven hands are adorned with kamandal, bow, arrow, lotus flower, pot full of nectar, chakra and mace respectively, while his eighth hand holds a rosary that bestows all siddhis and nidhis. Mother’s vehicle is a fierce lion, which is a symbol of her might and power. According to astrological beliefs, Mother Kushmanda directly controls the Sun planet and the devotee who worships her with a true heart, all the defects and negative effects of the Sun planet are removed from his horoscope.

On the fourth day of Shardiya Navratri, wake up at Brahm Bela, take bath, wear clean clothes and purify the place of worship by sprinkling Ganga water. After this, spread a red or yellow cloth on a wooden post and install the picture or idol of Maa Kushmanda.
