Mahindra XUV 3XO, one of the most popular models in the sub-4 meter compact SUV segment in the Indian automobile market, is now ready to launch in a new and very affordable avatar. The company has officially released the first teaser video of the XUV 3XO CNG and has confirmed that this much-awaited CNG model will be unveiled on 15th October 2026. Currently available in petrol, diesel and all-electric (EV) powertrains, the XUV 3XO will become the first SUV in its class to offer four different fuel options (Petrol, Diesel, EV and CNG) with the addition of CNG option. Recently, a test mule of this SUV was also spotted testing on the roads without any camouflage, with an official ‘CNG’ sticker on the rear windscreen.
Usually, CNG cars in the Indian market are limited to only budget and base variants, but Mahindra has clearly indicated in its teaser that XUV 3XO CNG will be launched with premium and high-spec features.
-
Confirmation of panoramic sunroof: The panoramic sunroof of the SUV has been prominently shown in the teaser released. This means customers will be able to enjoy economical CNG driving as well as a luxury sunroof.
-
REVX Inspired Closed-Off Grill: In the front profile, the company has given a new grille design and sleek closed-off pattern inspired by its recent REVX range.
-
Connected LED Lighting Setup: Its signature C-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), split headlamps and full-width connected LED taillights at the rear are retained, giving it a sporty and muscular road presence at night.
-
Other exterior elements: Roof rails, rear spoiler, washer-wiper and black rear bumper with silver skid plate strengthen its SUV character.
There are often complaints of lack of pickup and power in the CNG segment of the cars, but XUV 3XO CNG is going to change this perception:
-
Turbocharged MPFI Engine: According to reports, Mahindra is going to offer a factory-fitted CNG kit with its tried-and-true 1.2-litre turbocharged multi-point fuel injection (MPFI) petrol engine. In standard petrol mode, this engine generates power of about 110 bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm.
-
Strong punch even in CNG mode: Although the official figures of power and torque in CNG mode will be revealed only on October 15, but due to the turbocharged setup, there will be no significant slowdown in the power output of the vehicle during overtaking and climbing.
-
Transmission: It is likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox initially, while the option of an automatic gearbox may also be offered in the future.
The biggest and interesting question in the CNG model of XUV 3XO is regarding its boot space. Since the standard model already has a compact boot, it will be interesting to see how the luggage space will be created after installing the CNG cylinder.
-
Will Mahindra also adopt dual-cylinder technology (Dual-Cylinder Setup) like Tata Motors, where useful boot space is saved by tucking the two smaller cylinders under the floor?
-
Or will a conventional single-cylinder setup be given?
Industry experts believe that Mahindra may have done smart engineering keeping in mind the utilization of boot space, which will be revealed at the official event on October 15.

approximate price: Compared to the existing petrol variants, the price of CNG variants can be around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh higher. Its ex-showroom price is expected to be in the range of Rs 9.50 lakh to Rs 12.50 lakh.
-
With whom will there be direct competition: Currently, only two compact SUVs offer factory-fitted CNG in the Indian market—Tata Nexon iCNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG. XUV 3XO CNG will directly challenge the dominance of these two vehicles.
In the festive season, just before Dhanteras and Diwali, this new bet of Mahindra will emerge as a great option for those Indian families who want a safe, premium and powerful SUV with sunroof, but are also looking for great mileage to avoid the rising expenses of petrol and diesel.
