Rahul-Priyanka march to Supreme Court with INDI alliance, permission to file petition against CEC

Once again a big political drama was seen in the country’s capital Delhi on Monday. Under the leadership of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, all the big leaders of ‘INDI’ alliance took out a big foot march from Jantar Mantar to the Supreme Court against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. However, amid heavy security arrangements and tight blockade by Delhi Police, the Supreme Court made it clear that the doors of the court are open to all and the Congress delegation has been allowed to file its petition.

Opposition’s ‘Chalo Delhi’ march and protest against CEC

The opposition had called for ‘Chalo Delhi’ protest march to protest against the functioning of the Chief Election Commissioner and the recent electoral processes. Many prominent MPs and leaders of the Indi alliance along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi joined the march, which started from Connaught Place and moved towards the Supreme Court. Before the march, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a press conference, described it as a march to protect justice and democracy. Opposition parties allege that the Election Commission is not performing its constitutional obligations impartially, against which they have decided to approach the court.

Supreme Court gave permission to file petition, CJI clarified the position

On the other hand, amid this entire incident, Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant made it clear that every citizen and elected representative of the country has full right to come to the court. On the request to meet the opposition leaders, the CJI said that he had received a letter in this regard, to which he had replied as per the rules. He stressed that the doors of the Supreme Court are open to all and every appropriate petition will be heard within the ambit of law. After getting the permission of the court, a delegation of 10 to 15 members of Congress went inside the Supreme Court premises and duly filed their petition.
