12 October, Lucknow. Yogi government is going to give a big gift to about 60 thousand village guards of the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will announce increase in his honorarium by Rs 1,000 per month in Bareilly on October 13. With this, the monthly honorarium of village guards will increase from Rs 2500 to Rs 3500. With this one-time increase of 40 percent, each village watchman will get an additional Rs 12,000 annually. Chief Minister Yogi will also honor village guards in Bareilly Police Lines. After increasing the honorarium of cooks, Anganwadi workers and Panchayat assistants in recent months, now the government is going to provide financial relief to the village guards associated with the rural police system.
Gram Praharis associated with the Home Department are an important link in the police information system in the villages. These sentinels attached to local police stations provide information related to suspicious activities, mutual disputes and law and order in rural areas to the police. Village guards, who maintain contact between villages and police stations, were demanding increase in honorarium for a long time. This demand is expected to be fulfilled by the proposed announcement of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Their estimated number in the state is 60 thousand. On this basis, the increase in honorarium will bring an additional financial burden of about Rs 7 crore per month and Rs 84 crore annually on the government. There is a possibility of provision of funds for this in the supplementary budget.
Next series of decisions to increase honorarium
In recent months, the Yogi government has taken decisions to increase the income of various sections working on honorarium. The honorarium of about 3.53 lakh cooks preparing mid-day meals in council schools has been increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 per month. The honorarium of Anganwadi workers has been increased by Rs 4,000 and that of helpers by Rs 2,000 per month. Similarly, the honorarium of more than 57 thousand Panchayat assistants has been increased from Rs 6000 to Rs 9000 per month. The daily allowance of the volunteers of the Provincial Guard has also been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 600. In this sequence, preparations are now being made to increase the honorarium of village guards.
Preparation to increase pension of more than 1.25 crore people
Along with the increase in honorarium, the government is also preparing to provide relief to the beneficiaries of social pension schemes. After the in-principle consent of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the proposal to increase the amount of pension for old age, destitute women and disabled people from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 per month is being taken forward. It is likely to be brought before the cabinet in the second fortnight of November. More than 67 lakh elderly people, more than 42 lakh destitute women and more than 12 lakh disabled people are beneficiaries of pension schemes in the state. If the proposal is approved, each beneficiary will be able to get an additional pension of Rs 6,000 annually.
