The holy festival of Shardiya Navratri is considered to be the biggest festival of worship and devotion of nine forms of Mother Durga. Shardiya Navratri of the year 2026 is starting with Ghatasthapana (installation of Kalash), but this time according to almanac calculations, a special and rare astrological situation is being created on the day of Ghatasthapana. This year, on the day of the first Navratri, there will be a simultaneous effect of ‘Chitra Nakshatra’ and ‘Vaidhriti Yoga’, which is considered contaminated or prohibited for Ghatasthapana in religious beliefs and scriptures. In such a situation, many dilemmas have arisen in the minds of Goddess devotees regarding the right time and rules for installing the Kalash. Astrologers and theologians, on the basis of meticulous study of the scriptures, have determined the special auspicious time and Abhijit time in which the fasting ritual will be completely successful and fruitful by performing the puja.
According to Hindu scriptures, especially ‘Nirnay Sindhu’ and ‘Dharma Sindhu’, it is considered very important to sacrifice Chitra Nakshatra and Vaidhriti Yoga at the time of establishment of Kalash in Shardiya Navratri. It is clearly mentioned in the scriptures that when Chitra Nakshatra or Vaidhriti Yoga is present at the time of Ghatasthapana, then worshiping in the normal Muhurta during that period should be avoided because this period is said to be a contaminated combination. This year, the phase of Chitra Nakshatra is starting from early morning on the first day of Navratri and at the same time Vaidhriti Yoga is also prevalent. The scriptures direct that if such a situation arises, the devotees should choose Abhijit Muhurta for worshiping the Goddess or wait for Chitra Nakshatra and Vaidhriti Yoga to pass or their effects subside.
Keeping in mind the corrupt combination of Chitra Nakshatra and Vaidhriti Yoga on Shardiya Navratri of the year 2026, scholars have declared ‘Abhijit Muhurta’ as the best and flawless time for establishing the Kalash. Abhijit Muhurta is considered in the scriptures to be the remover of all types of defects and the favorite Muhurta of Lord Vishnu. According to the Panchang, the normal morning auspicious time for Ghatasthapana will be from 06:15 am to 07:30 am, but in the places where the influence of Chitra and Vaidhriti is intense, installing the Kalash in the ‘Abhijit Muhurta’ falling between 11:45 pm to 12:35 pm in the afternoon will be most auspicious and fruitful. By doing Ghatasthapana in this special time period of 50 minutes, all types of Nakshatra and Yoga related defects are automatically eliminated.
To receive the blessings and blessings of Goddess Bhagwati, the method of Ghatasthapana should be as per the scriptures. On the first day of Navratri, after taking bath in the morning and after meditating, the worship place or Ishaan corner (north-east direction) of the house should be cleaned by sprinkling holy Ganges water. After this, sow Saptadhya (seven types of grains) in an earthen altar or a square vessel and install a pure copper, brass or clay pot on it. Put water, Durva, Panchpallav (mango or Ashoka leaves), betel nut, Akshat and coin in the Kalash. Install coconut (shriphal) wrapped in red cloth or chunri on the mouth of the Kalash. While installing the Kalash, while meditating on Goddess Durga, chant the mantra “Om Ain Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vicche”. Regular establishment in Abhijit Muhurta brings happiness, peace, prosperity and health in the house.
If for some reason the seeker has to perform Ghatasthapana early in the morning, then astrologers advise that he should first worship Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and his family deity and then recite the apology mantra in front of Maa Durga. To negate the effects of Chitra Nakshatra and Vaidhriti Yoga, light a solid lamp of desi ghee near the Kalash and offer Roli, Akshat, and red flowers to Mother Bhagwati. By reciting Shri Durga Saptashati daily for nine days of Navratri, all the fears, diseases and mental troubles of life go away. In this Navratri of 2026, with the right time and devotional worship, Mother Ambe will fill the treasury of her devotees and fulfill every wish.
