At this time, a very big and relief news is coming out regarding the health department and medical system of Jharkhand. Hemant Soren government has taken a historic step to overcome the acute shortage of doctors in the state and ensure better health facilities to rural and remote areas. The state government has expedited the process of appointment of a total of 506 doctors, including 306 super specialist doctors and 200 medical officers, for hospitals across the state. Along with this, a unique and comprehensive initiative has been launched to bring approximately 1,200 additional doctors from premier medical institutions of South India to Jharkhand to modernize and strengthen the health services. This masterstroke of the government is expected to completely change the picture of government hospitals in Jharkhand in the coming days.
A high-level review meeting of the Health Department was organized at Nepal House in the capital Ranchi, which was presided over by Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari. Additional Chief Secretary of the department Ajay Kumar Singh, Campaign Director of National Health Mission Shashi Prakash Jha and other senior officials were present in this important meeting. While talking to the media after the meeting, the Health Minister said in clear words that it is not possible to treat the public just by building big hospital buildings, but it is mandatory to have skilled doctors and modern machines in the hospitals. The main objective of the government is to ensure that poor patients of the state do not have to travel to other states or expensive private hospitals for minor treatment or complex tests. Under this commitment, the recruitment process for 306 super specialist posts is being taken forward in a transparent manner.
To bridge the shortage of specialist doctors in the state, the Jharkhand government has turned to the medical sector of South India. Two special administrative teams have been formed by the health department to bring skilled doctors from medical hubs like Chennai, Kerala, Hyderabad and Bengaluru to Jharkhand. The first team is being led by Special Secretary Dr. Neha Arora, which also includes Joint Secretary Lalit Shukla, while the command of the second team has been handed over to NHM Campaign Director Shashi Prakash Jha. These special teams will connect with reputed hospitals and medical professionals of South India to attract them to serve in Jharkhand and will work towards providing them conducive work environment, higher honorarium and better security in the state.
Under this new action plan of the Health Department, full emphasis is being laid not only on the reinstatement of doctors but also on the modernization of medical equipment. All basic and modern testing facilities like CT scan, MRI, digital X-ray and advanced pathology labs will be operated smoothly in the district hospitals and medical colleges of the state. The government believes that timely and accurate testing helps in saving the lives of patients. Apart from this, health centers are being activated in remote hilly and rural areas of the state so that direct and accessible benefits of government health schemes can reach every citizen.
During this time, the Health Minister also directed that there will be no compromise on the safety and respect of the doctors and medical staff working in hospitals. It is the responsibility of the government to provide a safe environment to the doctors working in difficult conditions. Along with this, a meeting of the Governing Body of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is also proposed on October 15, in which a strict review of the functioning and arrangements of the institute will be done. With this big and far-sighted step of the Jharkhand government, it has become clear that in the coming time, the medical system of the state is going to be at par with the leading states of the country.
