Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has finally made his grand comeback in T20 International cricket after a long gap of almost four years. The biggest reason behind this exciting and much-awaited comeback has been his consistently excellent performance in the recently concluded Indian Premier League i.e. IPL. Indian team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has completely justified the selection of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and has laid special emphasis on how important and necessary it is for the team to have experienced players along with the enthusiasm of young players in this modern era of international cricket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar played his last international match in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup against England at the Adelaide Ground, after which he was continuously out of the Indian T20 team.
Two brilliant seasons of IPL turned his fortunes and got him a place in Team India.
Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore on the Indian Premier League stage, Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed such magic of his bowling in the last two editions that it became impossible for the selectors to ignore him. If we look at the statistics of the last two IPL seasons, he has bowled brilliantly in a total of 31 matches and taken a total of 45 wickets at an average of 22.55 and an economical economy rate of 8.52. It is on the basis of his lethal bowling that the Royal Challengers Bangalore team has achieved great success in winning the IPL title consecutively. Especially the IPL 2026 season proved to be very brilliant for Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s career, in which he took a total of 28 wickets in just 16 matches with an excellent average of 17.89 and an excellent economy of 7.95 and remained the second highest wicket-taker in that entire season.
Coach Sitanshu Kotak called experience the biggest strength of Team India.
Indian team’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, while speaking openly during a press conference, said that during the recent series played against England, the team felt a huge lack of experience of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, because many young bowlers were playing in the team. Coach Kotak believes that the young players are undoubtedly performing very well to the best of their ability and should get continuous opportunities, but after reaching a certain level on the cricket field, you are in dire need of experience. This is why the selectors have taken a historic decision to recall Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Indian T20 team, keeping in mind his recent performance and experience in the IPL, so that the team’s bowling attack can become more balanced and stronger.
Swing and experience will work wonders in the challenging conditions of New Zealand
The Indian team has to play an exciting five-match T20 International series against New Zealand from October 22, after which a long series of five ODIs and two Test matches will also be played between the two teams. The experience of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is adept in swinging the new ball on the fast pitches and airy grounds of New Zealand, can prove to be a big weapon for Team India. Coach Sitanshu Kotak also believes that in the challenging and tough conditions of New Zealand, there is no match to Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s ability and intelligence to control the runs and trouble the batsmen in the initial overs of the powerplay. Currently, the Indian team is busy playing a five-match T20 series against West Indies, where under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team has taken a spectacular 1-0 lead in the series by winning the first match and the second important match of the series is to be played on the Ranchi ground.
