India’s first indigenous fleet support ship ‘Surya’ joins Navy

Today has been recorded as a golden and historic chapter in the history of the Indian Navy, which is writing a new chapter of the country’s maritime power and self-reliance in the defense sector. From the country’s capital and coastal areas to the defense corridors, one name has the biggest resonance at the moment, and that is India’s first completely indigenously built Fleet Support Ship (INS Surya). The Defense Minister of the country has officially inducted this huge and state-of-the-art warship into the Indian Navy in a grand and dignified ceremony. On this occasion, in his powerful address, the Defense Minister said with pride that ‘Surya’ is not just a ship, but it is a living symbol of the height of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, which is now ringing the invincible might of India from the depths of the sea to the waves of the oceans. With the inclusion of this huge warship in the Navy, India’s strategic position in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific region has become many times stronger than before, which is sure to give sleepless nights to the opposing countries.

What is the role of Fleet Support Ship and why is it very special for the Navy?

Generally when we talk about Navy, the names of warships, submarines and destroyers come to our mind which directly attack the enemies. But any navy is in constant need of ‘fuel’, ‘ammunition’, ‘ration’ and other equipment to survive for a long time in the open sea and to conduct operations over thousands of miles without any interruption. This is where the real role of Fleet Support Ships, i.e. these ships which provide support to the fleet, begins. The ‘Surya’ warship will actually act as a floating warehouse and refueling station, which will easily provide diesel, water, spare parts and necessary supplies to the warships in the middle of the ocean. With its arrival, the warships of the Indian Navy will no longer need to return to any port repeatedly for supplies or fuel, but they will be able to patrol the deep seas of the Indian Ocean and beyond for months and keep a close watch on the movements of the enemies.

State-of-the-art technology, heavy lifting capacity and tactical strength

The technical features of this ‘Surya’ Fleet Support Ship, designed by the joint efforts of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) and Indian Navy engineers, are surprising defense experts across the world. This ship is fully capable of carrying thousands of tons of fuel, heavy military equipment and essential war material. It has been fitted with state-of-the-art navigation systems, modern radar and self-defense weapon systems so that in any emergency or hostile situation, the ship can protect itself as well as provide cover to other ships. Defense experts say that amid efforts by countries like China to continuously increase their naval presence in the Indian Ocean region, the induction of ‘Surya’ into the fleet will prove to be a game-changer for India. Now the Indian Navy is completely self-reliant and ready to deal with any unexpected maritime challenge, which no power in the world can easily ignore.

Defense Minister’s big statement and steps towards self-reliance

During the launch and commissioning ceremony of ‘Surya’ in the Navy, the Defense Minister of the country, in his address, praised the country’s scientists, shipyard workers and Navy officers. He said that there was a time when India was completely dependent on imports from other countries for its defense needs and weapons, but today’s new India is making its own modern warships, submarines and aircraft in its own country’s factories. This successful launch of ‘Surya’ and its induction into the Navy is irrefutable proof that India is now fast moving towards becoming the new leader of the world in the field of defense production. There are plans to include more ships of this category in the fleet in the coming time, which will further strengthen India’s global strength in the form of Blue-Water Navy. This historic achievement is enough to fill the chest of every citizen of the country with pride, which shows that our country is fully determined to become invincible at every front.
