Samrat Chaudhary government’s big action on negligence in security of Gandak embankment

At present, the monsoon and floods in Bihar have badly affected the life of the people, due to which not only the rivers are in spate but there is also huge pressure on the embankments. Meanwhile, news of a very big and strict action is coming out from the political and administrative corridors of Bihar, which has created a stir in the camp of careless officials. Taking very seriously the gross negligence and carelessness in the monitoring of water resources department and embankments, the Samrat Chaudhary government has taken a tough administrative decision. A total of seven senior and field engineers posted in Gopalganj and Chhapra i.e. Saran districts have been suspended with immediate effect on charges of serious negligence while on duty on the flood protection front. This quick and strict action of the government has sent a clear message that any kind of fraud or corruption in flood rescue operations will not be tolerated at all, because it puts the lives and property of lakhs of people at stake.

Amidst the rising water level of Gandak River, gross negligence was found in monitoring the embankments.

These days in Bihar, many major rivers including Gandak River are flowing near or above the danger mark, due to which 24-hour monitoring of sensitive embankments should be the biggest priority of the Water Resources Department. After continuous complaints for the last few days and protests by the local villagers, it came to light at the government level that paper work was being done for the repair and security works of embankments in some sensitive areas of Gopalganj and Chapra. When the higher officials suddenly went to the ground level and inspected, it was found that the engineers of the concerned area had shown gross negligence in the pre-monsoon protective works and availability of flood fighting material. If these embankments were not taken care of in time, a small mistake could have caused a major embankment to break and could have caused massive devastation in dozens of villages. On the basis of this internal investigation report, the government has punished these seven careless engineers without any delay.

Strong message from Samrat Chaudhary government: ‘Those who play with public safety will not be spared’

Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and playing a key role in the government, Samrat Chaudhary has taken a tough stand on this entire matter and has made it clear that the state government is working on a policy of zero tolerance in the matter of corruption and dereliction of duty. It is a clear instruction of the government that the budget and resources allocated for flood protection should be used with full honesty and timeliness, so that the general public can be kept safe in case of any disaster. The seven suspended engineers include officers at different levels of Gopalganj and Chhapra jurisdictions, against whom formal charges have been framed for departmental indiscipline and failure to discharge their duties. This strict administrative step of the government is being highly appreciated by the local public and enlightened citizens, because they believe that unless such strict action is taken, the careless people in the system will not improve their working style.

Government’s strong step amid questions being raised on flood management and administrative vigilance

Bihar faces the horrors of floods every year, and for this the government spends crores of rupees every year on flood protection and strengthening of embankments, yet sometimes the situation goes out of control due to administrative laxity at the ground level. This time, the government has proved how serious it is in dealing with any possible disaster by showing strict attitude in the initial phase of monsoon. The Water Resources Department has also been instructed to conduct a high-level inspection of all other sensitive embankments in the state again to ensure that such negligence is not being done anywhere else. After this action against the engineers of Gopalganj and Chapra, there has been a stir in the engineering and administrative departments of the entire state and all the officers have now become fully prepared to monitor the embankments in their respective areas. The public hopes that with such strictness, not only will the dangers of floods be averted in time, but the culture of accountability in the government system will also be strengthened.
