A big and relief news has come to light amidst the ongoing high level meetings on bilateral relations and diplomatic front between India and Russia. After the recently concluded Consultative Committee meeting between India and Russia, information has come to light that about 140 Indian citizens allegedly trapped or recruited in the Russian Armed Forces have been successfully released from service. Along with this, the Government of India is now in constant touch with Moscow for the safe return and complete information of another 55 Indian citizens still serving in the Russian Armed Forces.
According to the report of news agency ANI, Indian diplomatic officials have held serious talks at the top level with Russian officials to get all such citizens released from service as soon as possible and safely, positive results of which are now emerging.
During this important advisory committee meeting, many important issues were discussed between the officials of both the countries. Sharing information about the meeting, official sources said that the Indian government has taken up this matter with the Russian side with full determination.
It was officially informed at the meeting, “The Indian side is in constant touch with the Russian authorities to obtain detailed information about the other 55 Indian nationals allegedly in the Russian army and for their early release. Simultaneously, India’s law enforcement agencies and central agencies are also taking very strict legal action against the unscrupulous and fraudulent agents who misled the innocent youth and sent them to Russia.”
Earlier, last month, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while addressing the press, had shared the latest and detailed data related to this entire matter. During that time, the Foreign Secretary had informed that information was received about a total of 227 Indian citizens who were recruited in the Russian Armed Forces. Of these, 139 civilians had been released from service by that time, while it is also a sad truth that 55 Indians had lost their lives during this period.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had clarified that this serious issue has been raised prominently with Russia at different levels and on various diplomatic occasions. He had said, “As per the last count, we had the data of a total of 227 Indian citizens recruited in the Russian Army. Out of them, we got the official information that 139 of our citizens have been completely released from the Army. However, it is extremely unfortunate that there are 55 of our citizens who have died so far due to various reasons.”
The Government of India is still in constant dialogue with Moscow at the diplomatic level for the safe return of the remaining Indians present in the Russian Army so that all can be brought back home safely as soon as possible.
