The process of departure of South-West Monsoon is progressing rapidly across the country, but despite this, rains, storms and strong winds are not stopping in many states. According to the latest bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for October 3, completely different weather conditions will be seen in different parts of the country. While the weather has started becoming dry in most areas of North-West and Central India, an alert has been issued for heavy rains and strong storm winds due to the activation of Cyclonic Circulation and trough lines in the North-Eastern states and Peninsular South India.
The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain especially in Arunachal Pradesh, while it has predicted gale force winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining coastal areas.
A sudden increase in seasonal activities is being seen in the states of North-East India. According to the Meteorological Department, due to moist winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, there is heavy accumulation of clouds in the hilly areas of the North-East:
-
Alert in Arunachal Pradesh: Torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in many parts of Arunachal Pradesh on October 3. In view of the possibility of landslides on the mountain slopes and waterlogging in low-lying areas, the local administration and disaster management teams have been instructed to remain alert.
-
Assam and Meghalaya: There is a possibility of light to moderate rain at most places and heavy rain at some pockets in these two states.
-
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura: In these states, there is a forecast of lightning along with thunder and winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Due to the upper air cyclonic circulation over the south-east Arabian Sea and Kerala coast, the weather remains extremely disturbed over the South Indian states:
-
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal: On October 3, there may be heavy rain with thunder in many districts and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. During this time, a warning has been given of strong surface winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour, due to which there is a possibility of damage to weak structures, trees and electric wires.
-
Kerala and Mahe: Incessant rains with strong winds and lightning will continue in the coastal and central districts of Kerala. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
-
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh: Thunderstorms and strong winds have been predicted in coastal and south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema and coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.
Due to the formal departure of monsoon in the plains of North and Central India, the weather pattern has turned towards clear and dry:
-
Uttar Pradesh and Lucknow: The sky will be mainly clear in most of the districts of Western and Central UP including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Noida. There is little chance of rain and there will be a slight drop in night temperature with mild sunshine during the day.
-
Delhi-NCR: The weather will be completely dry in the national capital Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. The maximum temperature of the day is expected to be around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 23 to 24 degrees Celsius.
-
Bihar and Jharkhand: The weather will remain dry in most of the districts of Bihar, although there may be sporadic light drizzle due to local clouds in the eastern and Terai areas.
In view of this change in weather and fluctuations in temperature, health experts have advised people to take precautions to prevent seasonal diseases (viral fever, cold-cough and dengue-malaria).
In the states of Northeast and South India where there is an alert of strong winds and thunderstorms with a speed of 50 km per hour, people have been appealed to avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during strong thunderstorms. Tourists traveling in hilly states have been advised to leave only after observing local weather warnings and traffic advisories.
