The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a major change in Team India for the upcoming five-match T20 series to be played against West Indies. The team’s star spin all-rounder Washington Sundar has been dropped from this series. This sudden decision has surprised the cricket fans, because Sundar was recently seen playing in the semi-final match of Asian Games 2026 against Sri Lanka and was also looking completely fit.
An exciting five-match T20 series between India and West Indies is to start from October 6. Currently, a three-match ODI series is being played between the two teams, in which Team India is leading with a 2-0 lead. The third and final ODI match of the series will be played on Saturday, October 3. Earlier, due to Prasidh Krishna’s injury during the second ODI, Anshul Kamboj was included in Team India, and now Sundar’s exit before the T20 series is another big development.
This question must be arising in the minds of the fans that when Washington Sundar is completely fit, then why has he been dropped from the T20 series? Actually, a special and visionary plan of BCCI is working behind this. Sundar is currently an important part of the Indian team in the Asian Games 2026 and he will play the final match on October 3.
Just three days after this, i.e. from October 6, the T20 series against West Indies is to start, immediately after which Team India has to undertake a difficult tour of New Zealand. The Indian team also has to play an important test series on the New Zealand tour. Keeping in mind the busy schedule of the future, BCCI has taken this strategic decision. The board wants Washington to focus entirely on the beautiful red-ball format. For this purpose, he has been released from the T20 team so that he can be fully prepared for the New Zealand tour by playing domestic cricket i.e. Ranji Trophy.
BCCI has chosen a very surprising and exciting name as the replacement for Washington Sundar. The board replaced Sundar with a young player Naman Dheer Has been included in Team India. This is the first time that Naman Dheer has officially got a place in India’s T20 team.
Naman Dheer has recently been a part of the Indian team in the first two matches of the ODI series being played against West Indies. Although, he did not get a chance to bat in both those matches, but he definitely attracted everyone’s attention with his bowling, although he did not get any success. Now Naman Dheer will try to live up to the trust of the selectors with his excellent performance in the T20 series.
