The clash of power, strategy and personal egos has taken a very unexpected and violent turn in the third episode of Prime Video’s reality show ‘Rise and Fall Season 2’. The power equations in the tower of the high-stakes game show hosted by Virender Sehwag were completely shattered when a war of words between the two lead contestants in the penthouse—Sivet Tomar and political analyst Shehzad Poonawala—suddenly turned violent. This scuffle, which took place amidst an exercise in balancing power in the tower, turned the dynamics of the entire show upside down. The organizers and makers of the show (Banijay Asia), following their ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding violence, ordered Sivet Tomar to leave the tower with immediate effect.
This drama was not limited to the eviction of just one contestant, but its impact was seen on the entire penthouse. In protest against the eviction of Civet, Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar and well-known TV actor Karan Patel raised serious questions on the fairness of the show’s management and rules. Both the stars strongly protested against the unilateral decision of the management and themselves decided to walk out of the tower in support of Civet. The walkout and removal of three leading faces in one fell swoop has created a huge stir among the fans and viewers of ‘Rise and Fall’.
At the beginning of the episode, strategic discussions were taking place within the tower between two factions—the Rulers and the Workers. While the workers in the basement were doing their math regarding the upcoming nominations, the rulers present in the penthouse were assessing which contestant could prove to be the biggest threat to their throne. Meanwhile, a race was announced in front of the rulers to become the ‘Ultimate Ruler’. The contestant who won this title would not only have full monopoly on taking the most important decisions of the tower, but would also be safe from the sword of elimination that week.
However, before the start of the main race, there was a twist that all the rulers would have to decide through mutual consent and voting who is the weakest among them in decision making, and that contestant would be directly eliminated from the race. During this process, Civet Tomar became everyone’s target. Most of the rulers termed him the weakest decision-maker, which irked Civet. Especially he seemed hurt by the attitude of Shehzad Poonawala because both of them had made an unspoken alliance of playing together in the beginning. Civet made sharp remarks while directly attacking Shehzad and calling him a backstabber. Civet said sarcastically that when it came to standing in front of Swara, support was sought with folded hands, hence it is important to understand the value of the tongue.
Despite being declared a poor decision maker, Civet was given one final right to influence the game, in which he took revenge by defeating Shehzad as the weakest. After this, Shehzad showed Karan, Karan showed Swara and Swara showed the way out to Raj Grover. Thus, only three names—Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Tej Pratap Yadav and Irina Rudakova—are left in the final race for the crown of Ultimate Ruler. After being eliminated from the competition, there was a sudden change in the equation of Civet and Swara Bhaskar. Civet, who had earlier sworn never to talk to Swara, was seen sitting and discussing with her.
Shehzad Poonawala termed Civet’s changed stance as ‘hypocrisy’ and double standards and openly taunted him. This very thing displeased Civet and the argument between the two turned into abuses and heated arguments. The anger became so uncontrollable that Civet suddenly grabbed Shahzad’s neck and pushed him down with full force. In this sudden physical attack, Shahzad’s clothes were torn and he also suffered physical injuries. Other contestants present in the penthouse intervened and separated the two, but by then the limits had been completely crossed.
Under the Tower’s strict constitution any form of physical violence is considered the most serious crime. In such a situation, as per the rules of the show, the lift doors opened and Civet Tomar was immediately instructed to pack his bags and go out. But at this juncture Swara Bhaskar challenged the management’s decision. Swara argued clearly that clapping cannot be done with one hand; If action is being taken for raising hands on Civet, then Shehzad Poonawala should also face similar consequences for deliberately continuously provoking and inflaming the situation. He said that unless action is taken against Shahzad, this decision is completely unfair.
Karan Patel also joined Swara in openly supporting Civet. Karan bluntly said that if Civet was being evicted, he would also leave the show on his own free will, because the person who provoked the person in front had got the consequences for his actions. When Civet moved towards the lift, Swara Bhaskar and Karan Patel also followed him and came out of the tower of their own free will. The simultaneous ouster of three big rulers has become the biggest upset in the history of the show.
After this unexpected drama and eviction, there has been a major reshuffle in the status of the contestants inside the tower. Till the conclusion of the episode, Tej Pratap Yadav, Shehzad Poonawala, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Irina Rudakova and Raj Grover remain in the lead roles in the circle of Penthouse (Rulers). On the other hand, the group of workers struggling in the basement includes Niharika Tiwari, Kaira Anu, Anish Bhagat, Sara Gurpal, Manish Kashyap, Gautam Gulati and Kajal Raghwani.
