Greater Noida, 27 September. Addressing the session ‘UP’s Journey from Electronics Leader to AI and Semiconductor Powerhouse’, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of IT and Electronics Department of Uttar Pradesh, said that Uttar Pradesh is now not only a big center of electronics and mobile manufacturing, but is also rapidly developing its capacity in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Semiconductor and Data Center. In the coming times, the connection of AI and IT with agriculture and rural economy will give a new direction to the development of the state.
The minister said that in a recent meeting with 52 startups, it was revealed that a large number of startups are involved in food supply, whereas the number of startups using AI in the agriculture sector is still less. Highlighting this as a big opportunity, he said that by connecting AI and IT with agro-based industries, farmers’ income and rural economy can be strengthened. After linking maize cultivation with ethanol production in the state, farmers are getting better prices for their produce. In future, similar technology based solutions can bring comprehensive changes in the agriculture sector.
He said that the state government is continuously making necessary changes in the policies to provide a favorable environment to the investors. Policy reforms are made from the level of the Chief Minister as per the needs of the industries. There is special emphasis on transparency in the process of giving incentive amount to investors and arrangements have been made not to keep any file related to investment promotion pending in the department. Incentives worth about Rs 500 to 600 crore have been distributed in the last one year.
Sunil Kumar Sharma said that Uttar Pradesh has seen a big change in the industrial and infrastructure sectors in the last few years. UP is among the leading states of the country in the fields of expressways, electronics and mobile manufacturing and air connectivity. Referring to the changes in defense production, he said that while there used to be talk of illegal weapons manufacturing, today work is being done in the state towards manufacturing modern defense systems like BrahMos missile and AK-203.
He also linked the growing budget of the state with economic expansion and said that in 2017, the state budget was around Rs 3.36 lakh crore, which has now increased to around Rs 9.72 lakh crore. This change is a sign of increasing economic activity, investment and revenue potential. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is entering a new era of technology and innovation. The aim of the state government is to take this change to every district. For the year 2026-27, special budgetary provision has been made to extend technological and industrial development to all the districts of the state. He called upon investors and technology experts to be a part of the AI, semiconductor, data center and electronics ecosystem of Uttar Pradesh.
