‘If I didn’t get work, I sat at home’: Parineeti Chopra’s pain spilled over her 15 years of career, told the mistakes for which she had to pay a heavy price

Mumbai Talented actress Parineeti Chopra, who left an impression on the hearts of the audience and critics with her very first film in Bollywood, has recently made very shocking and frank revelations about her career. Parineeti, who has been active in Hindi cinema for almost 15 years, has exposed the dark and bitter truth of the industry, which not everyone is able to face. Parineeti’s pain was clearly visible during an interview when she admitted that during a phase in her career, when she stopped getting good work, she quietly sat at home and waited for the right opportunity for years. He also admitted without any hesitation that he had to bear the brunt of some of his strategic mistakes, wrong film selection and not being able to adapt to the PR culture of Bollywood.

Parineeti, who proved her acting prowess in films like ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ and ‘Ishaqzaade’, even won the National Film Award (Special Mention). At one time she was considered the next superstar of Bollywood. After hit films like ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ and ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, his career suddenly slowed down and there was a queue of many flop films. Parineeti said that that period shook her badly both mentally and professionally, but she thought it better to sit idle rather than accept compromising roles.

Analyzing her period of struggle, Parineeti said that after her initial immense success, many seniors and advisors in the industry started convincing her that she should do traditional commercial and glamorous roles. According to Parineeti, ignoring her inner artistic understanding and natural spontaneity, she signed many such films on the advice of others, whose scripts she herself did not have full confidence in.

Many of these big budget commercial films flopped at the box office. Parineeti says that when a film flops, the entire blame is placed on the actress. During that period he saw his self-confidence shattered. Parineeti admits that she started following the formula set by others, which had a deep impact on her identity and it took a long time for her to understand that her strong point was content-driven stories with strong characters.

Throwing light on the way Bollywood works, Parineeti shared another bitter truth. She told that she could never be a part of the ‘Bollywood inner circle’, late night parties or the showy PR game. She has been a person who goes straight home after finishing work and remains limited in her personal life.

• Distance from camp and factionalism: According to Parineeti, a lot of work in the industry is determined by meeting people at parties, being in constant touch with directors and being a part of certain groups. She never felt comfortable making repeated calls to directors or visiting offices to ask for work.

• Culture of show off: She said that even when she was not seen on screen, it was against her nature to resort to PR tactics like fake relationship news or airport looks to stay in the media. This naturalness of his gradually proved to be harmful for him because the rule of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ prevails in the industry.

After a long gap and struggle, when Parineeti got a chance to play the character of ‘Amarjot Kaur’ in Imtiaz Ali’s film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, she proved that her skills had never diminished. Her acting and live singing with Diljit Dosanjh was highly appreciated across the country.

Parineeti said that ‘Chamkila’ was not just a film for her, but it was a rediscovery of her love for acting. This film made him believe that even today the audience only salutes true acting and authentic characters. Now instead of increasing the number of films, she is choosing only those projects which touch her heart and in which she gets the opportunity to put her full artistic energy.

Parineeti considers this 15 year journey of her career as a great teacher. He believes that recovering from a fall is the biggest lesson of life. Giving a message to young actors and artistes, he said:

• Never lose your inner voice and natural identity to fit into the mold created by others.

• Failures are not the end of a career; When bad times come, introspect, accept your mistakes and work on improving yourself.

• Instead of panicking if work doesn’t work out and choosing wrong projects, have the patience to wait for the right time and the right script.
