No major change has been seen in oil prices from the capital Lucknow, industrial city Kanpur, religious city Varanasi to Noida and Ghaziabad adjacent to the National Capital Region. Fuel prices have remained stable in most of the districts, which has directly provided great relief to working people doing daily commute, transporters involved in freight transportation and farmers.
There is a slight difference in fuel rates in different districts of the state, the main reason for which is the VAT i.e. Value Added Tax applicable at the local level and the freight charges from the oil refinery to the depot and petrol pump. The prices are determined every day at 6 am based on global trends under a daily review system by the state government and oil companies. Fluctuations of Brent crude in the international energy market have a direct impact on domestic retail rates, although domestic companies have adopted a strategy of keeping the rates stable for the last several months so that inflation remains under control.
Talking about big metros of the state, in Lucknow petrol is being sold at around Rs 101.86 per liter and diesel at around Rs 95.36 per litre. Whereas in Gautam Buddha Nagar district adjacent to Delhi i.e. Noida and Greater Noida, due to the local tax structure, petrol is priced between Rs 101.77 and diesel around Rs 95.26 to Rs 95.44 per liter. In Ghaziabad, petrol remains at Rs 101.88 and diesel at Rs 95.36 per liter. In Kanpur, the major business center of Central UP, the rate of petrol remains stable at Rs 101.78 and the rate of diesel at Rs 95.30 per liter.
In Varanasi, the main center of Purvanchal, petrol is being seen at the level of Rs 102.35 and diesel at Rs 95.72 per liter. Due to the impact of transportation cost in Sangam city Prayagraj, petrol is trading around Rs 102.40 and diesel around Rs 95.80 per liter. In Taj city Agra of western Uttar Pradesh, petrol has been recorded at Rs 101.66 and diesel at Rs 95.14 per liter. In the Chief Minister’s home district Gorakhpur, petrol is available at Rs 102.13 and diesel at Rs 95.50 per litre. In Krantidhara Meerut, petrol is being filled in vehicles at the rate of Rs 101.75 and diesel at Rs 95.25 per liter.
