More than 60 lakh stolen and lost mobile phones were blocked across the country, 13.8 lakh recovered: Know which state came out on top in phone recovery and where the police lagged behind.

The ‘Sanchar Sathi’ portal and its Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has crossed a major historic milestone in cracking down on stolen and lost mobiles. According to official data, IMEI numbers of more than 60 lakh (60.25 lakh) stolen or lost smartphones have been blocked so far across the country. Of these, more than 37.45 lakh phones were successfully traced with the help of technology and state police forces have succeeded in recovering more than 13.80 lakh handsets and returning them to their rightful owners.

If we talk about the total number of mobile phones recovered, the police of big states of the country have shown the most activeness. Maharashtra tops the list, where more than 1.75 lakh (1,75,290) phones have been recovered. Karnataka Police stood second, recovering more than 1.68 lakh (1,68,109) lost or stolen phones.

Uttar Pradesh stands firmly at the third position, where the police has managed to recover more than 1.64 lakh (1,64,478) phones in coordination with the CEIR portal. After this comes Telangana (more than 1.45 lakh), Andhra Pradesh (more than 82 thousand), Tamil Nadu (more than 77 thousand) and Madhya Pradesh (more than 75 thousand).

Large states in terms of percentage of actual recoveries (success rate) among traced phones Andhra Pradesh Has been at the forefront. Andhra Pradesh Police successfully recovered 58.18% of the traced phones. After this, the recovery rate of Mizoram (50.92%), Gujarat (50.36%), Arunachal Pradesh (50.41%), Karnataka (48.73%), Rajasthan (48.30%) and Uttar Pradesh (48.26%) was recorded much better than the national average (36.85%).

Among the Union Territories, Lakshadweep (90.91%) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (62.94%) have had the highest recovery percentage.

The most shocking and worrying figure in this report is the country’s capital. Delhi (NCT Delhi) Has emerged from. More than 10.59 lakh phones were blocked in Delhi compared to any other state in the country and out of these, 6.67 lakh phones were also traced. But when it came to seizing phones on the ground, Delhi Police could recover only 52,920 phones. This means that Delhi’s recovery rate is only 7.93% Which is the lowest in the entire country.

Apart from Delhi, the recovery percentage of Indian Railways (19.51%), Punjab (23.60%), Bihar (24.28%), Chandigarh (25.28%) and Nagaland (25.41%) was also very slow. In Bihar, where more than 1.46 lakh phones were blocked and more than 97 thousand were traced, the police could recover only 23,761 phones.

When a citizen loses his phone or it is stolen, he can block it by visiting the Sancharsaathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in) and entering the IMEI number of his phone. Once blocked, the phone completely stops working on any telecom network in the country (Jio, Airtel, Vi, BSNL). As soon as a thief or a new person inserts another SIM card in it, the CEIR system immediately traces the location and new number of that device through the network and sends an alert to the police of the concerned state. After this, the local police raids that location and recovers the phone.
