The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the official release of new textbooks of two major subjects for class 9 students for the academic session. This step has been taken under the revised curriculum prepared in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE 2023).
For a long time, students, parents and teachers were waiting for the availability of new books for class 9th. NCERT has clarified that the revised textbooks of Mathematics and Social Science are being made available for sale and study in a phased manner, so that the modern learning needs of the students can be met.
The availability of both the new books is scheduled on different dates as per the official schedule released by NCERT:

New book of mathematics: Name of new textbook of mathematics of class 9th ‘Ganita Manjari – Part 2’ Is placed. This book is ready to be printed and 21 September 2026 Has been made available for official sale from. Students and schools can now purchase it instantly.

New book of Social Science: Title of new textbook of class 9th social science ‘Understanding Society: India & Beyond – Part 2’ Is. According to the Council, this book 30 September 2026 Will be available for sale at all authorized sales centers and online platforms.
NCERT has strongly advised students, parents and schools to purchase only through authorized sales channels to protect themselves from piracy or fake books. Three major means of purchasing books are provided:

Add new Class 9 books to ‘Cart’ by logging in with your mobile number or email.

Complete the order by making online payment (UPI/Debit Card/Net Banking). The books will be delivered directly to your home through post or courier.
2. E-commerce platform Amazon (Amazon India)
NCERT partners with e-commerce giant to ensure instant access to doorsteps Amazon Has also partnered with. Parents can book the original printed copies directly by visiting Amazon’s authorized NCERT storefront.
3. NCERT Physical Sales Counters
Those who wish to purchase books in-hand can directly visit the official sales counters of NCERT located in various cities of the country:

Apart from printed copies, NCERT is also uploading PDF versions of all these new books for free download on its official websites in a phased manner to promote digital education:

ePathshala (epathshala.nic.in): Go to the ‘Students’ section on the e-Pathshala portal or mobile app and select ‘e-Textbooks’. After this, the complete chapter-wise PDF can be downloaded for free by selecting the class (Class 9), subject (Mathematics / Social Science) and new title of the book.

DIKSHA Portal (diksha.gov.in): Digital study material and practice questions can be easily accessed by scanning the QR code on the Diksha app or searching for a topic.
According to NCERT, these new books have been designed to move away from rote learning and promote practical, experiential and critical thinking:

Ganita Manjari: It combines real examples from daily life, Indian mathematical traditions (Indian Knowledge Systems) and interactive puzzles, so that students can understand the logic behind mathematical formulas instead of memorizing them.

Understanding Society: The traditional division of history, geography, economics and civics in the social sciences curriculum has been made more integrated and contemporary, so that students can better understand the social developments of India and the global contexts.
