From health checkup to yoga and meditation in old age homes, Yogi government is serving the elderly.


Lucknow, 22 September. The Yogi government is continuously improving the facilities in old age homes to ensure that the elderly get a healthy and respectable life with safe shelter in old age. Instructions have been given to organize regular weekly health check-up camps in all the 75 old age homes of the state run by the Social Welfare Department. In these camps, a team of doctors reaches the ashram and checks the BP, sugar, eyes and general health of the elderly. As per the need, essential medicines are also provided to them free of cost.

Team of doctors every week, special monitoring of health

Chief Medical Officers have been instructed to organize weekly health check-up camps to regularly monitor the health of the elderly living in old age homes. A team of doctors reaches the ashrams and examines the health needs of the inmates. General health is also checked along with BP, sugar and eye examination. If required, essential medicines are provided free of cost. The objective of this system is to connect the elderly with regular health services and to provide timely medical assistance.

Emphasis on facilities of daily life, from drinking water to library.

Along with facilitating the daily life of the elderly, the Social Welfare Department is also taking care of their mental and social health. Along with the provision of clean drinking water, TV and library facilities are being provided for entertainment in old age homes. Yoga and meditation sessions are also being organized to engage the elderly with active and positive routine. The department is also continuously monitoring the improvement in the infrastructure and daily living standards of the ashrams.

Along with shelter, pension and Ayushman support also

Director of Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Singh said that along with expanding the facilities in old age homes, the government is also emphasizing on connecting the elderly with economic and health security. At present 6,607 elderly people are living in 75 old age homes of the state. Of these, 4,901 eligible elderly people are getting the benefit of old age pension, while Ayushman cards have been made for 2,551 elderly people. 1,073 new elders have been added to social security schemes in the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27.
