He had created such a parallel network in the rural and forest areas of Jharkhand, where not even a leaf would move without his consent. Collecting levy (extortion) worth crores of rupees from coal mines, road construction companies, big contractors and local businessmen had become his main profession. Any person or company that refused to meet his demand was killed or his machines were set on fire.
Brijesh Ganjhu’s network was not limited to just extortion, but he had many times carried out deadly ambush attacks on security forces, in which many brave soldiers of the country were martyred. Many of his close commanders were either killed in police encounters or arrested, leaving Brijesh Ganjhu feeling completely alone and weak from within. The news of his eventual demise amid the long process of law and justice proved that the world of crime always ends with downfall and ruin, no matter how vicious he was.
In a state rich in mineral wealth like Jharkhand, insurgency and Naxalism have always been the biggest obstacles in the way of development work.
