Semicon India 2026: PM Modi grandly inaugurated Semicon India 2026, said – New India has emerged as the world’s reliable semiconductor hub!


While formally inaugurating the global conference ‘Semicon India 2026’ organized in the country’s capital region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the global technology giants, scientists and investors. From the conference platform, the Prime Minister made it clear that silicon chips are the backbone of technological progress of the 21st century and India has now moved rapidly towards becoming not just a consumer of technology, but a strong and reliable partner in global chip manufacturing and designing. With various technology centers of the country like Bengaluru, Noida, Hyderabad, Dholera and Sanand, India has made a strategy to create an integrated ecosystem in this direction, so that India’s share in the global supply chain can increase manifold.

Addressing industrialists from across the world at the conference, the Prime Minister said that when the world is looking for flexibility and reliability in supply chains, India offers a stable, transparent and innovation-friendly environment. Under the Bharat Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the government has formulated concrete policies for setting up full-scale fabrication units ranging from design, assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP). India’s huge youth population, millions of trained semiconductor design engineers and favorable government incentive schemes make India the most attractive destination for global chip manufacturers. The country aims to achieve strategic self-reliance in the global semiconductor industry, thereby minimizing foreign dependence in critical sectors such as electronics, automobile, defense and AI.

During the conference, the Prime Minister underlined that for the development of modern technology, not only policies but also world-class infrastructure are equally important. In emerging semiconductor parks like Dholera in Gujarat and Morigaon in Assam, essential requirements like ultra-pure water, uninterrupted green power supply and high-speed connectivity have been prioritized. Due to the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and financial subsidy schemes of the Central Government, leading chip manufacturing companies from all over the world are coming forward to set up plants in collaboration with Indian partners. India’s focus is not limited to assembly but also on complex chip designing and developing intellectual property (IP) domestically.

The Prime Minister laid special emphasis on the fact that the biggest asset of the semiconductor industry is highly skilled human resources. India produces millions of engineering graduates every year and the government has implemented specialized semiconductor courses in collaboration with premier institutes, IITs, NITs and technical universities across the country. The objective of these courses is to provide practical training to the youth as per the actual needs of the industry. Indian talent has already left its mark in the world of chip designing and now with the establishment of manufacturing fabs within the country, these youth are getting unprecedented opportunities to be involved in cutting-edge research and production in the country itself.

In the modern era, the functioning of every advanced device, from smartphones to high-speed trains, electric vehicles, medical devices and supercomputers, depends on semiconductor chips. In such a situation, amidst global geopolitical turmoil, building a secure and reliable supply chain has become a top priority for the entire world. Prime Minister Modi assured that India’s democratic structure, strong legal system and stable policies guarantee long-term stability to global companies. Semicon India 2026 is not only a showcase of the country’s technological prowess, but it is also a testament to the fact that India is moving ahead with determination towards becoming the world’s next big hub in the field of chip manufacturing.
